| The Sharpie is a great writing implement has to be in the top 10 of my collection. Meets the needs of both the programme scriber and the opportunist autograph grabber. A must have item in your man bag!

After reading this thread I wish I'd opted for inserting one into my man bag instead.

Not really, an STI always starts off well then goes down hill fast.

| This is a very important game - Warrington are potential challengers for top spot in the table. Beating the top sides is like a four pointer so Saints would risk players against a side like Warrington that they would not risk against most other sides.
Having the mental edge that the records gives is important given the part confidence plays in sport at any level. If you believe you can't win then your chances of winning diminish. If this trend is broken then the floodgates could open - look at Wigan in the 80/90's.
Professional sport is cynical at best ruthless at worst - any edge - however small is leveraged to its max.
The fact Remarkable Rhinos fails to comprehend the importance of this is no surprise to me or most who read his diatribe.

Given Wire's opening two games though, Saints look clear favourites

| Is it possible that the medical staff at Saints have actually decided they are fit to play? So the whole thread might be about nothing. Well, obviously it's a thread about nothing already, but it might be a thread about less than nothing. Some kind of anti-thread.
Good thread this.

Yes, had they have been playing Wakefield, Salford, Catalans etc, they may well have given them an extra week, but if they're pushing to come back 'early' it is because this is an important match in the race for #1 spot.'"
Yep. Looks like I've totally and utterly failed to comprehend the importance of the match doesn't it dips[ih[/iit.

It's 2 league points, just the same as are on offer at Headingley tonight. It will decide nothing ultimately beyond whether Warrington continue with one of the most embarrassing run of defeats to a single opponent in any pro sport.

So you are seriously suggesting a win over Warrington is the same as a win over Catalans? and that 2 points is all that is at stake - if you really think that I have over estimated your cognitive processes and that really takes some doing.

Once again your inability to read comes back to haunt you.
Sport is as much about belief as it is about ability - do Warrington actually believe they can beat Saints - the longer the run continues the less the belief!! It is important for Saints to maintain the run from a psycological point - something that has gone so far over your pea brain that it would laughable if it weren't so tragic.

Is there anyone on here who is capable of thinking outside of the box?
The top sides can beat the bottom sides at will when it matters- which is why only 4 teams have ever won the GF.
When the top teams meet the differences in ability is small to none so belief and confidence is huge in determining who wins these crucial games. Keeping this run going has an importance well beyond the 2 points on offer.

I get what you're saying but am not sure that it applies in this case. I'd say the differences in ability between Wire and Saints have been apparent for most of the period in question.

Erm yes. Unless it happens to be in a playoff or cup game what makes a win over Warrington suddenly so important? It's 2 points.
Well done for proving the OPs point about arrogance.

Wire have been well capable of beating us for the last three seasons but even when they have taken significant leads, like in the playoff match last season, we have come back and won, regardless of how well we have been playing ourselves. In 2008, for instance, they were beating us until the last five minutes when we scored a try to draw the match only for Longy to kick one over on I think the last play. Why did they lose that match? Why have they lost so many against us in the last three years? Why can they beat everyone else but not us? It has to be a question of confidence. It certainly isn't to do with ability because on paper, certainly this season, they are at least as good as us if not better (given our pathetic wings, lack of one centre and mostly absent halfbacks!).
If they don't beat us tonight, when they won't even have Knowsley Road or Keiron Cunningham as excuses, I will be even more baffled by their losses than I am already, and I'm very baffled by their losses as it is.

Agree. I don't really understand all the point regarding arrogance, and although only 2 points are on offer it would be a boost to wire mentally to get the win

Maybe, but don't you think that Saints will want to lay down a marker at their new "home" ground?

| long way to go so in the league and many twists and turns but untill we adopt the american football system wereby you will hold the tie breaker over the beaten team it will be 2 points and in some players mind it could put a seed of doubt but with tony smith in charge i doubt it he will say it is only a tough game
