| Last line of defense? More like the first line of attack. Viewing the FB position as defensive one rather than an attacking position has been one of England's/GB's main problems for years.

| England Threequaters are simply not test standard.
How come there isn't any England officials in this comp? All Aussie refs and video refs and quite frankly we're getting fa from the as we expected.

| Mistakes in defence are killing us, they have scored off nearly every one we have made. The refs are exactly as i always knew they would be, one eyed.

Somehow, the Australians have learnt about Sam Tomkins's left-foot step every time he gets the ball, and consequently he's made no ground whatsoever. How on earth did they manage to figure that out?
He's just a white Carl Gibson.

| I think you can only compare this game to the last one with Australia really.
From Australia 46-16 England in 2009 to Australia 34-14 England in 2010 says it all basically. Our defence has improved, but our attack has declined. Not surprising considering we now have more Huddersfield players in the squad who are noted for their top notch defence and non-existent attack against the top teams in top games.

To be honest Joel looks totally ineffective at this level but there is time for both of them.

It may read that way on paper but the reality is that this Aussie side is missing Thurston ,Inglis ,Hayne ,Folau ,Hodges and still beat us in 2nd gear!
I think we did better than i expected and there were some ridiculous calls go against us but we were'nt good enough again.

You can only play with what you’ve got.
The major difference this year is that this England squad didn’t get to the four nations final like the last one. People can point out that the Kiwis had a better squad this time around, but people can also point out that England had a better squad this time last year.
Works both ways.
The likes of ‘League Freak, Barry Mckenzie & AP/Keith Swiftcorn’ like to think that playing the four nations in England is inferior to playing the same competition in Australia. Its just a mythical conclusion that does nothing other than muddy the waters of what is fact.
Don’t fall for that injury argument. On paper Leeds Rhinos had the best squad that ever graced the club and look how that turned out this season.

Whilst we were easily second best, we were with half a team missing. I'm not saying we would've won, but I think the match would have been closer.
...and I know Australia were also missing players, but we all know they have more strength in depth than us.

| Damo i've not fallen for any injury argument just pointing out differences you left out of the comparison you made and they still add up to the same thing = Aussies too good end of!
As for working both ways Morley and Peacock are finished at this level mate and i don't think Sinfield at 9 would of done any better than Roby so what many would consider major losses for England would not of had enough of an impact to change the same end result.

You mentioned that '[ithis Aussie side is missing Thurston ,Inglis ,Hayne ,Folau ,Hodges and still beat us in 2nd gear![/i' of which I interpreted as that England would of done a lot worse if such players were playing in this mornings four nations battle.
If I interpreted wrong then please forgive me.
Yes both add up to the same thing but whilst Australia have declined in attack, England have gained in Defence. England have likewise declined in attack, but gain in defence.
So yes your pretty much spot on that it’s the same result whatever in an Australian win. However you cannot deny the improvement in defence by England, but most worrying of all is the decline in attack when we wasn’t that much of an attacking threat before anyways.
Sinfield performed sensationally in last years four nations and your right he wouldn’t of made much diffrence. But the truth is, it was Sinfields efforts that saw us at least get to the finals.
Can’t really argue with your Morley and Peacock opinion.
My conclusion is that this England side has declined this year and it’d be interesting to see the stats. It wasn’t that long ago we drew in two friendly’s that we should of walked with ease.

As I said mate you can only deal with facts.
No one rates the 2007 series win over New Zealand simply because it was played over here and against a ‘weakened’ Kiwi side. Trolls of this board would have you convinced that if this, that and this player played for New Zealand in that series then we would of lost.
But the reality is England don’t do well down under and the Kiwis are the same over here likewise. Australia just seem to do well wherever they go. Its not some crackpot mythology I’m cooking up here to suit my thinking - its fact.
Finally injuries and ageing is all part of this sport.
If only Gary Schofield was playing..

It's exactly my point Damo you compared this years result to last seasosn and indicated the improvement in defence without listing the clear gulf in the class the respective teams faced and like i said we were outplayed comfortably still so i don't count that as an "improvement" in anything tbh.
