That type of shoulder charge is not illegal in RL but it is in RU, precisely beacause of the potential for the sort of injury that Burgess has incurred tonight.
I think that the authorities need to look into this before somebody does suffer from a broken neck or a spinal injury that could result in a player spending the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
I fear that is the end of the season for Burgess.

It's a hard one because everybody likes to see big hits and I guess 99 times out of 100 both players come out fine.

That's one hell of an impact from the kick off with 2 players having run flat out for 50 metres between them and takes very little for it to go wrong like it did tonight

Shoulder charge in RU is an automatic sin bin, one of the worst rules in the game.

Only saw it on the big screen and it looked like Burgess' head hit Walker's shoulder but I couldn't really tell - hope the lad's Ok - it looked real nasty.

Awful, his teeth seem lower to the right of his jaw.

Because a shoulder charge can be utilized in a safe way to stop an opponent 99% of the time. Union's laws about having the wrap your arms around an opponent are ridiculous.

Apologies if I misinterpreted what you were saying, but it seemed that you were implying it should be illegal, or it was in other codes. I was saying that it was an accidental clash of heads in a collision, and there's no way that should be illegal, or that outlawing a shoulder charge will prevent clashing of heads.

It's like saying you shouldn't be able to tackle from behind if you're the second man in because you could break somebody's trailing leg - just as Richard Owen found out in the third game of the season - ending his season and putting a highly promising career off the rails for a few years.

It's just one of those things that happens in a heavy contact sport, it's all dangerous - and that's part of its charm.
