in your scenario, the most experienced tj would have reffed and rr would have run the line for him (rr would come on at in goal judge in a non televised game)

We got a couple of 50/50 calls too, in the first half.

But the second half really was a joke from Silverwood and his linesman. It must have been at least double figures, where the decisions made were wrong. Blatently wrong.

He appeared to be trying so hard in that first five minutes of the second half to assist Hull to a score. But that would be questioning his inegrity.

The ball steal decision was simply atrocious. Silverwood was on the far side of the ruck and there was no way he could have seen what happened from where he was. To award a penalty based on guesswork is a joke.

The ref was shocking yesterday. How Burrow went and Lauaki didn't I don't know. Ridiculous decisions regarding the knock on all game. Very poor showing from Mr Silverwood.

Agreed, I’ve watched the game back twice now and it looks as if Silverwood needed to make a decision – he had a choice of two possibilities, didn’t know what had happened and guessed at the wrong one.

Also when he penalised Burrow for interference when Lauaki had his hand trapped.

Rob got binned on the say so of the touch judge who came onto the field and grassed him up. Even Silverwood smiled at that one! The technology was there to assist in decisions where he clearly could not see and he didnt use it - just his x-ray eyes and a bit of black and white imagination!

Perhaps when Rob scores next at HQ they could play the Rocky theme for him!!

To be fair to Silverwood he did ask the touch judge what to do, which he is entitled to do, and he clearly told Silverwood penalty to Hull, send Burrow to the Sin Bin and speak to Lauaki. He did exactly what the touch judge told him he should do and as such, that is probably the most amazing bit for any ref, he did what he was recommended to do!

They should have both gone to the bin, but it is over now and it did not effect the final result and neither is points difference an issue.

Silverwood wasn't great and I actually thought he made both sides discipline look poor when in fact, other than the handbags, I thought it was quite good. The worst decision for me was the ball steal close to the line, he clearly did not have a great view but in that situation where you have four players in a tackle very close to the line and they are all trying to clamp the ball to stop the off-load or if he does spin over the line, prevent him him from grounding the ball has to be rules a loose carry unless he has a clear view of the steal. Of course the reply clearly shows he was wrong and it was an attempted off-load, which sort of backs up my argument above!

Did anyone hear 'Saint' Ray's comments during the commentary yesterday to John Kear? John said something about Silverwood letting the ball be played quickly and Ray then asked why he was doing that in this game and he did something entirely different in the WCC! Unlikely supporter in Mr French I thought... still good on him. It would have been even funnier if John Kear had replied by something like it's because the Aussies sent him a video and had a meeting about it!
