Isn't it bleedin obvious that such is the injury crisis that the players in our youth set-up are turning out for the first team at the moment ?

Why what's happening with the supporters club?
I know they were having problems with Leeds Rhinos.

You didn't have an injury crisis last season.

For your information, the supporters club is scheduled for demolition as part of the South Stand redevelopment scheme (the largest standing area in British sport)

When will you learn that academy results don't really mean that much?

Wigan consistently get good academy results, but how often has that translated into a title winning first team in recent times?

You occasionally get a freak crop. But generally you'll do well to get one maybe even 2 decent ones a year. I think wayne bennet said something similiar in his book.

So it really doesn't matter whether you have a very very good team with 1/2 stalwarts or a terrible team with 1/2 class acts, the result for the first team is the same.

Leeds are continuing to produce.

Sometimes youth systems will go through spells where they don't produce many quality players. Sports academies are not some sort of factory where the players come off a production line. There could be a huge number of reasons why a crop of youngsters doesn't live up to the standards of those before it.

Manchester United waited until the mid 1990's - some 40 years - for a crop of young players to replace the Busby team. Every club in every sport will have periods where the youth system simply doesn't churn out players who are up to standard - there's not an awful lot that you can do about that.

i think the supporters club will be included in the new stand development.

But the present Leeds (very good side) has been built on a foundation from the superb academy team.

If now you look at Wigan you can see similar traits. Tomkins x 2 (no.3 Logan played in the reserves today) Hansen, Prescott, O'Carroll, Mossop, Ainscough, Farrell, Davies etc

There are some really good players coming through, I just don't see it at Leeds. With your reputation and pulling power you shouldn't be getting beat so easily at the lower levels.

You could of just left the rugby in but now you’ve pulled Leeds United into the mix which means its an all out debate Wigan v Leeds.

Wigan is a rather insignificant town that is incapable of producing top division table toppers in football.

I’ll let some of the more knowledgeable football supporters debate that one with you. But it doesn’t need much explaining that Leeds are more capable of churning out a football club better than Wigan because history states that we have.

Heck your attendances at Wigan Athletic are much poorer than Leeds United despite you been in the better league. It’s a non starter.

Again I’ll leave to the experts why Leeds is so much better than Wigan. In reality however you don’t need an expert because everyone knows Leeds is better than Wigan.

Far too much infighting in your city. You couldn’t make it at football so you made it at rugby league. History and attendances prove that

Didnt something like 10 leeds players leave end of season from reserves because rfl changed it from u21 to u20 so they were too old..some very good players left as well to go to the lower divisions..danny allen, simon brown, gareth moore etc.
Sometimes you could spend a couple of yrs getting these kids ready for the next step up, but they are probably another yr away from sl and they have local internatilonal playuers standing in way, then rfl move goalposts and theres nothing you can do but lose the money youve invested in them and let them move on.

Leeds may have a big service area but they havent got st judes, st pats etc from the ncl, every team goes thru a lean spell in getting quality kids coming thru, they could look excellent for their junior teams but be not as good when making step up to u20 etc .

Reffed stanningley `a` yesterday and they had a couple of decent young ones so dont write them off just yet, 2 or 3 yrs down line they may need the next generation but at the moment the ones they have produced are doing ok in sl so setup cant be all that bad, broughton at salford got 2 tries last night, not good enough for leeds first team but too good to sit in there reserves so for his developement he had to move.

You keep kidding yourself with that one, to curry flavour with others.



It might not be important to win trophies at that level, but if your team is getting beaten by your nearest rivals that easily and that consistently over the last couple of years, then it should be taken seriously.

If they are that far behind now compared to their rivals how do you think they would be at the next level?

The club has made a huge huge mistake over the last 4 years with its junior set up, and it needs to start again and quick. Taking on 19 year olds to give second chances to (although can pull the odd one out of the had) is not the way forward for such a big club. We should be recruiting the best at a young age, and we should give those players the best coaching they can have, which is something we are lacking in.

The fact that we have so many academy produced players in our team should highlight how successfull it can be if done properly. Most of these players came through when Leeds saw it's juniors as a priority rather than second fiddle as they are now.

It will be interesting to see how Leeds go in the under 18's this season, a forward pack containing Brad Singleton, Jared Stewart, Liam Hood, Colton Roche and Daniel Smith should be a match for anyone.
