On his own? I've always considered rugby league a team sport.
As an individual he was half the player he was before he left, not physically you understand.

I haven't had much time to post these past few weeks (been working. I know. have you stood up know).
So I haven't had much time to consider which stance I'll be taking.
Just off the top of my head if you like. Fits well with your hats analogy.

You're delving into the realm of opinion and leaving the comfort of facts.
TBH, I still thought he had all the skills when he came back but none of the sharpness to utilize them.
Immediately ousted McGuire from the test team for the 2004 Tri Nations final in what might be considered McGuire's finest season.

Wasn't it the fact that Harris left a Leeds team that hadn't won a Championship in almost three decades and joined a Bradford team that had a virtual season ticket for the Grand Final. A season ticket that Harris' remuneration package in large part was shortly after to scupper.

I think the skills had diminished somewhat also and were already on the wane before he departed Headingley. An opinion I've occasionally seen expressed on here by some respected contributors.

Once you get past the selection and efforts of GB that night the Aussies were superb imo.

A player who walked out of a League contract to go play union.
A player gone for 2/3 seasons.
A player who returned inferior to the one who left.
You're comeback is 'that player' who returned to league (after a couple of seasons in union) as good as or improved on the one that departed.

I was talking specifically about Henry. You mentioned Harris. There are similarities between the 2 but there are huge differences.
- One hasn't returned - 1 did.
My point is that the job Henry did a few years ago I cant see hugely why he cant do that now. Especially for a winger. Where as Harris was spent more or less before he came back. Didn't really evolve as a player when he lost his play - looked dated.
The fact is that Henry could score a shed load of trys. He made the most of his space on the wing, was a real stay on the wing winger and scored trys. Not perfect by any stretch. (remember when he filled in at 6 against us at HQ!!! )
He is a proven finisher who could score 20 plus trys a season.
I refer back to my earlier point, which you have neatly side stepped, do you think Leeds could have been assisted with a proven winger in the WCC who would have made chances into trys?

Leeds already had/have such a winger contracted for the 2010 season but unfortunately he picked up an injury in the game before the WCC.
Harris, to me, is indicative of what happens to league players that spend two or three seasons playing union.
I note you haven't come up with a returning player to counter that view....yet.
What have you seen of Fa'afili these past three years?
Besides all of which the Tykes' need is far greater than ours and he would be yet another non-federation trained player which would take Leeds to 8 (in layman terms) and when was the last time Leeds had 8 overseas trained on the books.

I don't claim in any way to be respected, but I thought he was losing it his last year at Leeds. He forgot how to run forwards and could only crab across the pitch. Still a solid player for several years but nowhere near his MOS form, even on a good day.

Ok then -
Martin Offiah.
I think he did ok (i suppose) as a returning player!!!!
As for Fa'afili (like I said earlier) I aint seen zilch of him in Tykes but I can guage what he did and what he can offer as a winger. Those habits die hard. And he is only probably late 20's still so quite a few years left in his tank. He can finish and is a proven try scorer in RL. Fact.
Players can get on the end of trys and their try ratio may make them look better than they are (maybe Hall or Riley for instance) but when you can rattle that number of trys in year after year it has to be noted.

Didn't he dabble with Union in the winter with Bedford and League in the summer while at the Broncos before he ended his league career with Salford?
Not altogether sure but I seem to recall Offiah and Steve McCurrie turning out at Goldington Road around the start of Super League.
