Police dogs actually do get paid, its not much, and it goes to their handler who looks after it for them until they are old enough to spend it and not waste it on things like sausages from the butchers, that sort of thing.

They also get free food, free housing, free healthcare and some of them get free boots especially the drug search dogs who might step on something nasty in a dealers house - not forgetting that the drug search dogs get free drugs to play with too.

All in all its not a bad old life really, you retire at eight years old and your handler is supposed to give you all of the money that he's been saving up for you but all the ones that I know don't do that and the dog never asks for it, its a sort of perk for being the handler
