How weird me too, my GF used to live up there and I went to watch them when I visited, 3 x Leeds/Dundee Utd fans

I like football as a sport, but I think it's horribly over-televised and over-hyped. I enjoyed playing it more than any other sporting activity I've partaken of, until my latest lower-limb fracture finally forced me to give up earlier this year. I used to enjoy watching it, but in the Sky era something happened, and I got bored. I still think it might be because with the sheer volume of football broadcast on Sky it was easy, in my early 20's, to get sucked into watching hours and hours of the stuff.

Then one day it dawned on me that I was wasting a lot of time on meaningless matches. As somebody said above, all bar about 6 teams in the Premier League are, despite all the hyperbole from Sky, very ordinary indeed. England friendlies are like watching dry paint remain dry. I find the Spanish game technically better, but less exciting than English football.

Nowadays I don't have Sky, all I watch is the occasional Champions League game on ITV, and consequently I usually quite enjoy them. I still actually prefer going to watch my old team on Newbold Comyn Park on a Sunday though. It's a bit more real, for want of a better word. I used to watch Guiseley for preference while I was still in Leeds. That felt more like what football should be.

Meh.

I like to watch match of the day (because its highlights) and Leeds games but thats about it.

The england qualifiers have been shockingly poor, I will no doubt get all giddy when the WC starts though.

I don't mind Qualifiers, and like you will no doubt get giddy when the World Cup starts. I don't mind if the game itself is a bit rubbish when the result matters.

I think its the result that catches my interest too. Very rarely does the football excite or entertain me. The nal team of a few years ago played beautiful football, and if they were on i'd watch if I had nothing better to do.

Quite enjoy watching highlights like MOtD, but a full 90 minutes of it...no thanks.

My husband is a season ticket holder at Hull (which is where he's from). He has been going since he was 4 - not missed a season. He/we now commute back a 3 hour round trip to watch them.

Just because we like sport in addition to rugby doesn't mean your a sheep nor indeed take any more notice of a commentator than one does of Eddie Hemmings.

People watching football expecting to be entertained in the same was you are when watching RL are going to be sadly disappointed. People who watch football and enjoy it as a sport in its own right are going to get the pleasure of watching another completely different sport

Sometimes - but he also sometimes wears his Rhinos shirt or wears t-shirts. He sometimes wears his shirt to work but sometimes doesn't.

Does it make a difference that we don't do "90 degree weather" holidays? last time he wore it on holiday was on the coastal path in Northumberland under a jumper and a waterproof

If I might pick you up on a point there, it's been a long while since anyone made a football shirt out of nylon. Personally I don't currently own any football shirts for purposes other than sporting ones, but if the weather is very hot, and one might be sweating, they are vastly more comfortable than cotton.

When Rhinosgirl is on her Northumberland holiday in the rain, they were definitely a better bet than cotton, as they dry much more quickly. They're alot like a technical walking shirt, only often cheaper.

In football terms this is like watching NL2 - what do you expect - this stuff is as far removed from the premier league as NL2 is from SL - this is division 3 soccer!!!!

I have always been a rugby league fan and been going to matches since I was a toddler. My husband was born and used to live in Hull - he was going to the football since he was 4.

We got together in 2001 - he started coming to rugby league with me (and now supports Leeds Rhinos because he now lives here and they are the only team has he watched - watching teh Rhinos in 2001 wasn't being a glory fan

I, in return being a huge sports fan, started to go to watch football with him - Hull City, so I class myself as a Hull City fan - again not a glory supporter as when I started watching them they were languishing at Boothferry Park in the doldrums of the football league

I'm not suggesting that's why everyone buys them, just that there are exceptions to your generalisation.

More people watch Leeds United in the third tier of English football than watch the Leeds Rhinos at the pinnacle of English RL.

If you find football boring then don't watch it. Football is popular enough as it is, without morons who watch it while not liking it, or because they are too dim to think of other things to make small talk about.

I found myself watching Netball on Sky Sports recently.

Didn't have a clue what was happening, and soon became bored stupid trying to fathom it out.
Did I turn the channel over? Nope...... I sat back and enjoyed every minute of it, and no idea who won, and didn't care

I prefer beach volley ball myself, the talent those athletes have is amazing.
