| One if the biggest things I miss about home is a decent Curry, every other type of cuisine is excellent in Australia, Indian food is terrible.
No place beats Karachi in Bradford for me!
Luckily Rick Stein has a recipe from there in one of his books so I just make my own.

| Abid's.. for several reasons . Not in any particular order .
1 : He is a nice bloke and gives you a free beer occasionally .
2 : His son has an ice-cream van and gives free samples occasionally .
3 : The food is excellent .
4 : The waiters and bar staff treat you like you are their best mate .
5 : Abid will come sit at your table and ask if everything is ok . Never had to say no yet and I have been there a few times .
6 : The premises are about the best I have ever seen regarding general appearance and hygene ( unlike EAST up the hill) .
7 : Location and helpful staff mean that getting there and back is trouble free .
etc etc etc
BTW.. I am off to Max's on Saturday Only because the company I will be in want Chinese food , or I would be at Abid's .

| If anyone called "AP" re-registers on this forum to give you advice on which Indian Restaurants to visit then simply ignore everything he says, your opening phrase "I need to impress this lass" immediately nullify's his opinions on Indian Restaurants.

I would stay well away from sheesh some of the worst curry I have had has come from there. One of the Southstander watchers sent two dishes back in one night.
what do they call that place on eastgat above Sta travel. That was very different but very good.

Mumtaz is great,The Sheesh is ace.
and its been here years.
ask them for the "long keema naan bread",its not on the menu, but theyll do it,loving awesome.
BTW,when it comes to chain indians then Akbars is the best, the one on the headrow is the best of the two.
BUt,sheesh Mahal, for all its basics, beats them all on food.
Just depends what woman you want.
One thats superficial or one thats genuine'"
Listen the Sheesh is a good place to take the wife but I am not sure it would be anywhere near the top of my list to take anybody I wanted to impress... come on, it is a curry house (a good one mind) but not a restaurant.
You clearly need to learn lots more about women!
You have said yourself that the food at Mumtaz is good and it is relatively reasonable and it is a nice restaurant with a nice ambiance in a nice spot! The Sheesh is on Kirkstall Road opposite an 'entertainment' complex!
Anyway, it would appear that he has settled for the retaurant in the Alea which G1 has heard is very good and I trust him when it comes to retaurant reviews!
Akbars is also very good, so we agree on that.

| What tariq's in Headingley like now?
Polash is very good.
The one in Alea casino comes highly recommended as does the Mumtaz Clarence dock.
Of course you could always jump on a bus to Bradford???

Don't bother.
Few of us went to Alea for a function, it all looked alright then. When we went back a week later to try the restaurant out, it was a big let-down.

Shababs?
We went to the one under the train station - as you say, a bit different to most.

Akbar's has been my favourite curry house for the last 8/9 years now - mainly the Bradford one, but the Leeds Eastgate one isn't bad. The Greek Street one charges a bit more and presents everything on white plates for more of a 'restaurant' feel. If you like a Balti I'd recommend any of the Kahari / Keema dishes in the Chef's specials section - chicken or lamb done in a fairly sry sauce with lots of green chillis etc. Awesome.
I've heard good things about Aagrah but never been. Always thought Sheesh and Amaan's were both too traditional, by way of decor and the fact that every dish seems to be a lurid shade of orange..
