I buy very, very expensive seats to avoid exactly this kind of "fan".

When I still qualified for one of their fests I found it much more pleasant to stay in nearby better quality hotels, that way you could still join in the night time frivolities but maintain a standard of living that they could only dream of in their no-star hovels that they were paying five star prices for

I've been on coaches that have been stopped en-route to football grounds for booze checks so yes, it does happen. These weren't exactly major events either - MBoro v Leeds IIRC

1 Offences in connection with alcohol on coaches and trains
(1)This section applies to a vehicle which—
(a)is a public service vehicle or railway passenger vehicle, and
(b)is being used for the principal purpose of carrying passengers for the whole or part of a journey to or from a designated sporting event.

(2)A person who knowingly causes or permits intoxicating liquor to be carried on a vehicle to which this section applies is guilty of an offence—

All vehicles that carry more than 8 passengers class as a public service vehicle (PSV) when driven for hire/reward . The ones that carry less than 8 passengers are a PCV.
