We went to see it on Wednesday. Absolutely superb with some pure comedy moments behind a serious storyline.'" Ahem, serious storyline?
The silly, violent storyline was set in a serious period of history but there was nothing serious about the story line.
The crazy thing is, I've heard that there was actually a squadron of British soldiers with a large Jewish contingent who did perform atrocities on Nazi soldiers but they were disbanded and it was hushed up.
Was standard tarantino fare and a decent flick but I am unsurprised something so pop culture, style-ized and lacking in substance floated Lawrences boat.
Much as I liked it Mr tarantino is a bit of a one trick pony isn't he?

| The highlight for me was being refused a ticket for my 17 year old son who didn't have ID (because we were lying, he was 17) by some hairy faced Oik (not Loz) at the counter. So I walked 15 yards to the automated ticket machine and bought one there.
Clearly they only employ the creme de la creme at the Vue in the Light,

I heard the storyline described in a radio review at the weekend and immediately thought of that succession of Roger Moore films from the 70s where, when he wasn't James Bond, he was a "real" army soldier shooting hundreds of bad men in every film usually with the same cast of goodies and baddies in each film - about as believeable as Alan Carr playing the lead role in a Steven Segal film.
Tarantino & Guy Ritchie are two of the most over-rated film producers/directors of all time, both are lucky to have hit on a cheap and popular format early in their career and now know nothing else.
Pulp celluloid for young boys who don't want to think too hard.

I liked Pulp Fiction a lot and most of Tarantino other stuff is OK, not too fussed about Ritchie's stuff but it's watchable.
To say they are lucky and one trick ponies sounds a bit bitter to me, how many genres of music did Bob Dylan/The Stones/The Beatles cover?, anyone can spot a Santana song from the first 3 chords but it doesn't mean they are not the very best at what they do.
For the record here is someone who agrees with You & G1 and just about the only critic that doesn't think the sun shines out of Tarantinos @rse.

| I'm not a massive Tarantino fan really, Pulp Fiction is the most over rated piece of garbage in cinema history IMO.
However I thought IB was fantastic, and certainly the best film this year. That being said, I thought Brad Pitt was awful in it on reflection. His part was over acted. The Jew Hunter steals the show in this one.

So the fact that the story opens with nazis shooting a Jewish family, and then moves onto one of the family members trying to get revenge on the said soldier is not serious??

I dont think the film really touches the holocaust. It is more about a jew living under a hidden identity in occupied France.

Your example of Dylan not changing his spots is not a very good one either given that he caused the biggest outrage in musical history in 1965 when he went electric, since then he's transcended nearly every musical genre going apart from classical opera and hundreds of artists across the spectrum have covered his songs.
I'll give you The Stones though.
