I think 2008 was a strong squad, and we have lost
Toopi
Scruton
Ellis
Tansey
Smith
with potential loss of
Ratu
Gibson
Worral
Coming in we have
Buderus
Coady
and maybe Eastwood
with
Coady
Pitts
Amor
coming in to fill the squad out and develop
I would say that from 2008, we are still 1 main squad player down, with the new 'acadamy' lads filling in for the departing ones.
I'd say an extra forward would be required, but depends on how the young lads progress

I would have thought that was standing out like a sore thumb.
We have no competition at halfback whatsover. Sinfield is only competition if Burrow or McGuire are out, he is not competing with them.
It would be nice to have someone who can challenge for the half back roles.
Your not going to waste on an established player for that, unless he is versatile for other positions. But surely another championship player or quality youngster can be found, who is capable of challenging at least.

With the halves roles being covered by Sinfield,Mcguire,Burrow,Webb and Allan how much do you spend on someone to sit in the u20's?
We have the emergance of ryan gaunt also so with that considered and the club releasing simon brown and gareth moore i'd say the coachs at least are indicating that they are happy with what they have got.

They were happy going into this season. It has been proven they were wrong, by the comments they have made since.
Webb has played halfback once in his Leeds career. Not because he was competing for it, but because McGuire, Burrow, and Sinfield were out at the same time.
Allan is a backrower, who is getting away with stand off in a crappy reserve league. He also has played once at half back for the Leeds first team, again when McGuire, Burrow, and Sinfield were out.
However you want to look at it, we have nobody putting competition on Burrow and McGuire. However they play, regardless of thier form they currently have the positions sewn up. That is wrong.

So then how much do you spend and at what level of quality are you expecting??????
Plus what comments regarding half back depth have proved them to be wrong BTW???
P.S Judging by where the money is being currently spent that indicates to me that they are still happy with the squad as regards to half backs, unless of course you or someone else know of someone we are after!!

And I hear we are now favorites to sign Adam Peek from Celtic.

| "LEEDS RHINOS are among four Super League teams chasing Celtic Crusaders prop Adam Peek.
He is one of up to 14 Crusaders players out of contract later this year.
Leeds lead the chase for the Australian, ahead of Castleford, Huddersfield and Wakefield.
NRL sides Down Under are also interested in the powerhouse player.
Peek, 31, said: "I'm in negotiations with other clubs in the Super League and the NRL and I'm weighing up my options.
"It's flattering because it shows I can still play.
"I know the other clubs are keen to sign me but I haven't spoken about money yet."
Peek's departure would be another blow for the Crusaders, who have had a turbulent debut season amid financial worries and problems with visas."
From the RL Express.

No it isn't. They're both internationals at the peak of their career. They play in pivotal positions and have a wealth of experience playing together.
In about four years time, when they're approaching the tail end of their careers, we need someone putting pressure on them for their places but for now it's an unmitigated positive that we have half backs who have their position sewn up.

I already said that on the other page. Of course we can not allocate cap to a specialist established half back.
Therefore it is a player for another position who could play half back. Or can we not get a decent potential, champtionship player, like we have done with Coady and Amor? Or somebody elses academy player.
At the moment we have no half back who will be competing with McGuire and Burrow. That is the problem.

So we ignore it if there form dips? If one is out for a few months, we adjust the team in other areas to move people out of position?
That is a stupid position to be in, and not acceptable for a top sports team in any sport.
Have Saints every struggled when Long or Pryce are out?

I'd agree, but that doesn't mean its easy or even possible to make right. Which halfback of the quality required to put pressure on the likes of McGuire and Burrow would happily sit in the reserves all season except for the 1 or 2 games a year they may be needed?

But the young players we've signed from the championship have a reasonable expectation of playing fairly regularly for the first team in the near future with our lack of props and with Senior retiring soon.
Unless the rumours of everyone who has ever played a Super League game signing for Warrington are true then there isn't a first team spot available at halfback in the forseeable future.

| If Leeds signed Peek would that be eight overseas players next season?
Webb, Donald, Delaney, Leuluai, Buderus, Lauti'iti, Eastwood and Peek.
I thought we were trying to reduce the quota.

Eastwood counts as overseas trained as he should get a brittish passport so shouldn't count as overseas quota. IIRC

DISA the more of your ramblings I read I'm convinced you are a troll, we have produced 2 GB halfbacks from the academy who have won us 3 GF's and this is a stupid position to be in? Did you comment on letting Tansey go?
They are 2 of the best half backs in the country and IMO commitment has never been an issue with either so when they do have a bad patch just be careful of your knee jerking and let them ride it out.
We have Webb and Sinfield as back up, possibly the strongest back up halfs in the league.
What did Saints do against us in the cup when Long was injured......they played a second row at half back!

But Sinfield was only there because one was out injured.
He is not competing with either player for the position. That is where I see an issue. If we had a youngster at a more advanced stage and pressing it would not be a problem. Like Saints had with Eastmond and Wheelr this year. But we have nobody.
The one player who played preseason is now been released, on top of as you pointed out Tansey.
I dont like to see any player in any position now been challenged. Burrow and McGuire are not been challenged.
