We must agree to differ - Murphy is head and shoulders above any British half I have ever seen - he did it at international level too - not sure you can say the same for Holmes.

Murphy had the pace to break line and create opportunities that way - a truly outstanding player

Where have I said anything bad Holmes? All I said was IMO Murphy was the best British half back I had seen and compared there qualities.

I know all about de-railing threads!! But put point scoring to one side and actually discuss the legend.

John Holmes was a genius on the rugby field, all class and quality while playing the game in the manner it should be, despite being the target of hatchet men throughout his long career. Stop Holmes and you stop Leeds.

625 appearances for the club over four decades, 21 years playing service in total before retiring at the age of thirty-eight, all club records that will never be approached, nor should they. Nineteen finals with fourteen wins marked John out as a winner and he was instrumental in every one of them.

I sincerely hope John gets well very soon.

I never watched the man to be honest but I bow to the knowledge of posters on here, and whether he was the best or not, the bottom line is he isnt very well so hopefully fingers crossed he gets better - surely that is the mose important thing.

I think that information about someone's specific private medical conditions should not the fuel for public and at times potentially uninformed, speculation.

They are confidential and if the individual concerned so wishes, should remain so.

John Holmes was clearly the best player in an otherwise poor side when I started watching Leeds in 81. Leeds were literally clueless without him in the side.

Reminds me of Friday night.

My first rugby league hero. Still is one of my all time greats to this day.

I must have watched most of John's games for Leeds and admired his skills greatly. I am not wanting to know his private medical infomation I was just asking out of concern for his welfare. To post bad news without correct information will only lead to "uniformed speculation" Are we to assume that all the post on this thread are in the dark also?
