For gods sake don't take it to PC World or they'll have you down the Bridewell quicker than you can say "Pete "All in the Name of Research" Townsend"

| Quote ="Andy Gilder"Somebody (ahem) did a detailed guide to the food and drink options of Headingley and its environs that used to sit on the SS.com website - sadly it got lost in one of the multitude of server crashes RFLANS used to experience on a regular basis a few years ago.
Perhaps someone familiar with the area would like to take up the challenge of re-doing it so we can post it as a sticky for opposition speccies?'"
A quick effort:
A: The Arc
One of those "trendy wine bar types". Takes forever to get served and your wallet gets emptied when you eventually do.
B: Trio
Underground bar. Quite an intimate atmosphere but from that point on, see description above.
C: Headingley Taps
Looks huge from the outside, tiny when you get inside. Usual nitrokeg stuff. Expect to overspill into the car park on busier days.
D: Arcadia
One of Headingley's best kept secrets. Plenty of real ales / micro brewery stuff if that's your kind of thing.
E: The Box
Probably the most popular bar in Headingley. Has a late licence. Not difficult getting served but if the Arc didn't empty your wallet, this one probably will on anything but whichever crappy lager they've got an overstock of.
F: The Skyrack
Usual Greene King sort of place. People say it's one of the cheaper ones in Headingley but not sure I agree.
G: The Original Oak
Giant beer garden and excellent in the summer. One of my personal favourites.
H: The Supporters Club
Think Phoenix Nights. Busy on match days, not so busy the rest of the time.
I don't know enough about the other three to give a fair review. If anyone wants to add one then just add it to the thread:
I: The Three Horseshoes
J: Woodies
K: The New Inn
Likewise, if anyone wants to add places to eat then feel free.

Had their hayday in the 1970's - now "knocked through" and become soul-less open spaces in which to serve students with bottles of coloured pop and lager.
Whoever raped the Shoes when they "modernised" it should be shot at dawn.

Spent many an hour in there - in fact once we when in there in the summer of '87 and left in the Sping of '96.
It has now had the obligatory ‘student make-over’ and now blends in and can’t be distinguished with the Three Shoes and Woodies in being a hollow characterless, sterile one pot stop on the ‘Otley Run’.

| My personal favourite is The Three Horseshoes.
A quality pint for about £2 and really good food, also it's usually dead and has very few students in.

| Woodies is a very sterile Greene King effort and packed full of students regardless of time of year in my experience. I was in there on a Saturday and it wasn't even term time and in came loads of idiots from the home counties dressed as super heroes Big TV with Sky Sports, pool table, dart board and a toilet that floods all the time.

Thats the only thing that I recognise from your description, The Woodman's toilets have always flooded, my abiding memory of Christmas 1974 is the Gents toilet floor totally submersed under one inch of gents wee-wee and the carpet outside gradually soaking it up from under the door.
I don't suppose there's still a thin old bald headed dateless bloke behind the bar called Les is there - he'd be about 110 by now ?

That'll be the toilets where Alex Murphy dropped his comb in the urinal; fished it out; gave it a quick rinse and carried on combing his locks.

| Only went in Woodies once. I'd spent the swealtering afternoon swimming in hot chicken entrails (which smell like Satan's worst vindaloo dump) for an animal physiology practical. They did a "happy hour" type deal of 4 pints for a pound. So sitting there with my mates (each with 4 pints infront of us), we all take a sip and non of us can taste anything but chicken entrails. We left, and left the beer. Never went back.

As the original date was Friday 31 July, we are booked into the Headingley Lodge from Friday afternoon. The game has been switched to the Saturday by Sky, so we will be stuck in the hotel with no game on Friday night. Can any kind Rhinos fan tell me if there is a pub in the vicinity of Headingley Lodge which is likely to be showing the Friday televised game.
Hope you can help.'"

If it was four pints of bitter then it was probably Norman who served you, Norman always just served bitter, nothing else, you could ask for anything you liked, you could reel off a long string of drinks, long as you like, and he'd stand there smiling at you and then at the end say "four pints of bitter is it ?"
Harry Enfield based his pub landlord character on Norman.

That is not completely indifferent to Christmas 2007 (I recall they were OK last year).
The urinals would also pose a problem for those who are vertically challenged

Urinals ?
They've gone up market, it was a trough along the back wall in the 70's, which was all the easier to block up.
That pub was always a threatening place, we went in every week but never felt safe and there was always a fight somewhere, usually in the Gents - I mean, if you were going to pick a place to have a fight and roll around on the floor the Gents toilet at The Woodman would probably be the last place you'd choose

| I am overwhelmed by the amount of interest in this thread and the number of fans offering advice. I was particularly amused by BANG's post considering if I might be intrested in the 'student bints'. As Puig-Aubert pointed out, I will be with my wife, and as we are both septuagenarians that is not a factor! As we will have travelled down from Lanarkshire earlier in the day, we will be visiting somewhere near to the hotel; the supporter club at the ground seems to be the easiest to get to, as long as the Saints-Wigan game will be shown. Having stayed at the Headingley Lodge before, I know it is only a taxi ride into Leeds, but for health reasons we don't want to do any more travelling on that day.
Just one other little piece of information. I sent for tickets for the stand and have received tickets for the terracing. Is it possible to transfer?
Thanks to all of you who gave advice. I have noted all the pubs named, and if the one at the ground doesn't have the game, I will be at one of the others. Great reading your posts. May bump into some of you - although we won't be in the south stand. Thanks again.

I'd try and get that sorted before you come down. It's not uncommon for the seated areas to sell out, as Angela Powers found out during her infamous tour the other year.
