People who complain about aircraft noise near airports haven't a clue what "proper" aircraft noise is - I live about 1 mile (as the Jet2's fly) from Leeds/Bfd Airport and the noise made by the modern jets there is far less than the bin wagon on a Tuesday morning or the bloody Otley mini-bus that seems to have suddenly invented a new route down our street - and a lot less than the jets of the 1970's that flew over our house then

Indeed, I don't even notice them on Brownberrie lane now.

Funnily enough, the Red Arrows flew over my house today.

Must have been practicing at Elvington.

I was sailing on the Tarn back in the mid 80's when a military plane landed at [size=150LEEDS[/size/[size=75bradford[/size. Now that was noise.

As of ten minutes ago the Vulcan has been issued with it's delayed permit to fly and will now be leaving RAF Waddington at around 5 o'clock local on it's way down to RNAS Yeovilton for their airshow tommorrow.

Good times after last week's disappointment.

Early indications are that it's a three month extension to the present PTF rather than the full annual renewal. Presumably this will allow time to conclude the tests required while being able to complete the current display season which is the immediate priority. It should also ensure future annual renewals occur at a more appropriate time of the year after winter servicing rather than the middle of the show season.

That said she landed at RNAS Yeovilton with a brake issue and although that was repaired in time for the show the weather prevented her two displays scheduled for today. So for the second week running she ended up as a static item. Such is life.

Onwards and upwards.... it's the big one next week now at Fairford.

What's happened to Farnborough, I thought that was the big one.

Not this year. Farnborough International is a bi-annual trade show held on even years with a public weekend element tagged on. It was a major event for the Vulcan last season where servicability and the weather both played ball at the same time.

RIAT at Fairford is the largest annual military airshow in the world or so they used to claim. Last year was washed away denying the British public it's first Raptor display as well as the Vulcan's return after a 16 year absence.

Fingers crossed now for next week and the chance to perform in front of 250,000 over the weekend.

Thanks for that. I will unfortunately be in Leeds of all places on that Monday and will in all likelihood have to miss that flight from Fairford to Robin Hood. Nevermind.

558 is due to depart Fairford 12:45 local, landing Brize Norton approx one hour later.

As that trip direct would take all of 2 minutes she must be having a joy ride/practise sortie inbetween.

No word on ex RAF Finningley (Robin Hood) being on the menu for today though, so just another rumour that turned out to be ........

I can account for some of that time - the old bird came for a fly past (well two actually) of my work at about 13.00 on Mon... Nice to see (last time I saw a Vulcan must have been at Finningley Airshow about 15 years ago).

The second fly past even managed to set off a few car alarms.

(Apparently the reason for the flypast was that the pilot was one of RR's test pilots (they're direcly over the road...but the flypast was along the runway on our site).

That'd be down at Filton then.

The second flypast sounded pretty neat with a nice wheels down approach and climb away by all accounts.

She's been a busy old gal this last fortnight with her Fairford appearance, flying four days (Friday - Monday) followed by seaside shows at Lowestoft and a couple of RAF Family Day displays this week with another flight taking in four venues planned for tomorrow.

Onwards and upwards.

And just 5 minutes ago she flew over my back garden, circled round and flew over again, absolutely bloody brilliant.

I know the crew stayed at the neighbouring village pub when they attended the Waddington Airshow and had planned a flypast to say thanks on the Sunday of the airshow but she ended up grounded for the weekend.

Without wishing to repeat myself, absolutely bloody brilliant.
