| If he was a full time with Leeds but loaned to whitehaven how does training work?
Does he train with whitehaven then leeds on the days they dont train?
No point signing for leeds but continuing to train as a semi pro player

As I read it, he'd be training with Leeds and going back to Whitehaven to play. I believe Penny and the other guy do that with Wire and Widnes at present.
Of course, there's the issue of learning to play within the structure of the side, what with not being at training, but I'm sure that can be sorted easily enough.

Thats what I thought but to just turn up on match day abd play for a different team to that you have trained with all week must be odd.

In terms of travelling, obviously. But in terms of playing I think there's a valid comparison.

| I expect he'd train every now and then with Leeds, not every day. This sort of move is a good one IMO - Haven fans get to see him for a while longer, and Leeds/Hudds get to see him close up in training and playing to a reasonable standard as well. What it highlights again (along with a any number of other similar loan deals) is how dire Academy rugby is. If it was a good stepping stone to the first team nobody would be doing these kind of deals at all.

| He don't look all that big from the photos. At least he'll have some time to bulk for SL.
If we're loaning him back straight away we are effectivley signing him on the basis of potential??

Give over, academy rugby is only going to provide a limited number of players for first grade rugby. Clubs will be scouting other teams talent to further fill their requirements. Leeds are giving themselves more potential by also tying upo Coady and Amor (if it comes off) and a greater pool to choose from.

| Didn't Kirke do something like this in 2005; came to train with us but stayed at York until 2006?
I like the idea and would definitely like to see him signed up. The quality of props coming through the academy system don't really fill me with confidence...

| whats the obsession with all these nl1 players yes they might be cheap but i dont want us signing more than 1 a season otherwise we might end up with a team full of average joes.

Which one? There are three of them there?
Anyone remember when the two likkle twins signed to the Bulls? We were watching their under 18’s play a couple of weeks ago and George and Tom (I think) were the biggest lads on the park – if not bigger than Sam and both were pretty handy.

defo sam he might have played a bit last week but i think thats the pressure of having to perform to a high standard every week to be able to compete with the rest of the players being a pile of e
playing at leeds i reckon he will thrive
although if we could have the twins also that would be a bonus!

I would imagine the coffers at headingley are more than full. when was the last time we spent big on a transfer? we get huge amount of season ticket holders every season, fair enough carnegie stand was built but a lot will surely have come from sponsorship and mr caddick's company..

How much do you think it costs to staff and run a top grade sports team and all the various levels below it?
Think how much simple things like utilities have gone up in the last 2-3 years and compare that with the percentage rise in season ticket prices.
That's before you factor in playing, coaching and administrative staff salaries, upkeep of a stadium and training facility etc.
The idea that Leeds are somehow sitting on a great pile of retained cash is a fallacy IMO.

Erm...a tenner a week? I understand Andy, but i do think we are without doubt one of the wealthier teams in the world of RL. We have a big fan base and we've had huge success of late generating excellent income. Surely we must have a bob or 2.... add to that we very rarely maximise the salary cap.

Naive to think other teams don't have overlays too. Teams who have less fans, less gates, better stadiums and still spend full cap.
The idea that Leeds are not one of richest teams in the league are a fallacy.

Are you forgetting that we sold the cricket ground to Yorkshire where we got an initial payment of 3.5m and are still owed 11.5m. Do you really think we could allow a company to owe us such a sum if we didn't have a huge bank account already.
As for the rebuilding of the carnegie stand, half of that was funded by Leeds Met for the classrooms. Leeds are the ritchest club in the northern hemisphere by a country mile FACT. And this is because GH is a very good businessman. If the cap was not in force we could spend a fortune. Leeds rugby have other forms of revenue other than the two rugby teams such as a percentage of cricket test match fixtures, the hotel, the headingley pavillion for weddings and other functions. There is no other club that even come close to our revenue stream, wake up man.

Indeed. Also a far higher direct cost base as well as a requirement to subsidise another club.
