Agreed - comparing him to Lewis Jones/Sid Hynes is simply laughable - both were players out of the very top draw - can you really say that about Sinfield

plus these players did more pints than sinfield does press ups, trained for 5 hours a week not 5 days, my old man told me keith mclellan was the best captain EVER, big statement to make, leeds is a club steeped in history, sinfield isn't history yet, just lucky to be captain of a great club.

Hynes was a brilliant player - nasty - but a much underated player - oh how GB could do with centre half as good and half as tough as Sid

Syd was one of the few players capable of getting gang tackled and still concede the penalty for knuckling. Leeds legend.

Legend is a much overused phrase - not in the case of Hynes - a simply brilliant RL player - to compare Sinfield to him is simply ludicris

Surely the people who are putting old names forward are just been nostalgic. Kevin Sinfield any day of the week as the best ever person to captain Leeds. He’ll cement that place even more so in the years he is contracted to Leeds!

As far as eras go I'd say this side is right up there but not quite as good in terms of achievements as the late 60s-mid 70s side. They won the Championship twice (69 and 71), plus the Challenge Cup in 68, 77 and 78, a couple of Premierships, John Player, Floodlit and several Yorkshire Cups. And they did this when there were frankly more competitive sides about and in between times several of our team helped win the World Cup - so the same players could genuinely say they were the best in the world.

I know someone who will be saying Schofield. But yeah for most generations this club has been blessed with some very talented players and captains. As supporters of this club this is something we can be very proud of.

itsnice to look back i was a little boy when McLlellen was capt and remember the 1957 cup final,but that was MACs only trophy although he may have won the yorkshire cup in 1958.what i do remember about Mcllellen was the way he used to bo11--k the players during the game.older blokes around that time used to say jim brough was the greatest capt ,before that it will have been joe thompson.
Sinny has captained leeds to 3 grand final wins as old as i am that will do for me .
by the time he has finished he will be regarded as leeds greats capt and the most successful

good thread though, my old mans cousin won the lance todd under kieth mclellan, maybe thats why he rates him, opinions count, remember GB were world champions 50's -70's, now they are whipping boys & sinfield can't get a start.

Did you see Syd Hynes make any of his 366 Leeds appearances or 13 for Great Britain including his outstanding performances in GB's last Ashes series win and that came in Australia.
