| Nobody beats Leeds 13 times in a row. Was really in two minds about going this week but "just as you think you're out, they pull you back in." Honestly don't know what that means for the rest of the season. Despite the win I'd have to say Saints still beat us nine times out of ten. If we can kick on from this maybe we can develop the kind of confidence that will improve those odds. For once I'll actually watch the recording of the game but initial thoughts were: the middle unit really stood up, McDonald is a genuine strike runner, Sezer us great when he keeps it simple, and Saints fans need to realise when they've got it good.

| The result was a big surprise to me, the performance less so, in the sense that it wouldn't have been a shock to lose even though we played much better.
The best thing for the rest of the year was the fact our forwards really stood up to Sts. Sangare and Walters at times had much the better of Walmsley and co, particularly Sangare who seems to genuinely intimidate the opposition. I also liked the look of McDonnell. I'd pick him ahead of Donaldson any day of the week, particularly when Bentley can do all Donaldson does on defence but can add the odd good run as well. Mcdonald really adds an X-factor as well - brilliant work for Handley's try.
I'll admit that while I try to defend Leeming, O'Connor looked by far the better option at hooker, including his defence. Sezer just looked a different player with a pack holding its own and a hooker getting him the ball quickly and cleanly.
On the downside, we made too many poor errors. Olpherts' led to a try and Sangare's would have on another day. Tetevano's misread for Lussick's try was also poor. When Newman returns the player I'd drop from the backs is Fusitu'a. Olpherts at least runs the ball out with venom every time. For such a big guy Fusitu'a seems remarkably easy to tackle and he is really not that quick, as shown when Makinson nearly beat him to score from a kick.
Big result that we now need to kick on from.

Agree with nearly all of that. Think you are overstating Walters performance as in reality was only on the field for a very short spell, but was encouraging. Tetevano actually held the pack together and got through a ton of work.

| In that short time though Walters had key involvements in two tries and put that monster hit on.
I think the reason people like him and sangare should continue to get a place on the bench and get fans excited is they’re genuine game changers in the pack, who offer something we seem to have lacked for a few years now in genuine size and offload threat. A bit of aggression too that doesn’t go amiss.

Yeah true, but I think we also need to acknowledge (probably more kudos) the very solid player who plays 60 minutes out there (Tetevano)…..

Wilkin - LOL.
I hope Leeming is OK. He looked in absolute agony. Maybe a break, Beckham style.

It was certainly better from Tet. And I agree you have to have that balance. I’d also give O’Connor a lot of praise, practically 80 minutes at 9 vs Saints is no mean feat.
The interesting thing is a lot was made of who saints had missing, we’ve got 3 or 4 first choice players to come in too.

Good point. We had five by my count: Newman, Oledzki, Lisone, Bentley, and Gannon. I might be wrong, but I thinks the Saints win means that Smith has coached Leeds to a win over every single super league team - Leigh excepted - in less than a year. The lunatic fringe (where are you FlexWheeler) ought to take note.

| Congrats to Leeds - a great win for you and pleased for the travelling fans that didn't succumb to the "why would we bother" attitude that was prevalent on here during the week!
Played some great rugby to find edges, stuck in there when under pressure and deserved the win.
Can't get my head around the Walters decision which I thought was genuinely laughable, but we only have ourselves to blame for poor discipline.

| Walters should have been a penalty but the saints reaction to it and their sense of 'injustice' is even more laughable, seen very few things in the game more embarrassing than that group of St's fans giving abuse to sezer and smith. Trying to compare it to the Hurrell one straight to the head, Tetevano got 4 games for similar on Hurrell last year didn't he?
There was an embarrassing sense of entitlement about the whole St's reaction last night, and I've usually all the respect in the world for them as a club.

Cheers mate - for me Walters is a penalty, no more. It was a good shot, he’s bent his back and made contact around the chest/ball carrying arm. Technically a foul (it shouldn’t be). However the penalty is reversed when Welsby runs in and acts like a child.
I’d say Hurrell is a yellow bc he’s made contact shoulder to head - this is a clear head injury risk and that’s the kind of contact which should be penalised IMO. Sin bin sufficient though.
Saints were off, still clearly the better side but Leeds have got a very good young side developing again now and we look back on track. Have to say genuinely disappointed with the very poor sportsmanship from some Saints players and fans, it looked terrible from the flagship team in the comp. Small minority I know.

I don't think penalties for foul play get reversed for what Welsby did, the ref simply didn't think it was a penalty which is mad.
We only have ourselves to blame for blatant indiscipline but that was also blatant indiscipline. Was strange, particularly for a televised game!
Anyway, well done Leeds. Genuinely hope we get proper competition amongst the bigger teams this year - Wire, Wigan, Wolves, Catalans all being up there challenging would be good for the league.

Morgan knowles does the same every game.

I find it amusing that you were adamant that Welsby should have got a "clear red card" last week and then claim that isn't a shoulder charge.
Methinks someone is a little rattled by all the success Saints are having
Enjoy the win - well deserved. Hopefully Leeds can back it up as a lot of teams crumble the week after they've managed to go 80 with Saints.

Correct Shabs. It wasn't high.
But it was a shoulder charge and should have been penalised, We got away with one there. But Saints got plenty of calls in the game.
Someone needs to speak to Welsby. He can't take the law into his own hands - and he has ultimately cost them the game.
Myler was whacked 3 times. All were, quite rightly, punished.
Did our players come flying up the pitch to start on the player? No.
