Sam Johnstone at 10 million, Nat Phillips and Mason Holgate maybe could/should have got.

The money was there. I find it strange that they didn’t look elsewhere if Hamer was deemed too expensive. You can get a damn good 10 at this level for £10m to £15m..

We will see if they have played it right or it backfires.

Very good solid performance and I think the players brought in will add that bit of class.
At this stage I don`t see a lot changing in the top 6 with Sheff Utd, Burnley, West Brom, Watford, Sunderland and us in there.

Might not be such a bad transfer window for us. Yes some big names have gone out, but the balance of the squad may be better. The pivotal signing could be the Jap. If he’s a player that carries the ball forward from midfield that should open up gaps further up the field. Too many passes and not enough penetration last season even from the likes of Rutter and Summerville. I’m not too disheartened at this stage.

He certainly lost possession in some dangerous areas for us. Was a real luxury player, but not always a luxury we could afford.

Classic Rutter at the weekend given a free header on goal and I think it either hits his shoulder or side of his body after he mistimed his jump and the chance goes begging.

The athletic nature of this squad will be far too much for 90% of the sides in this league. Given their inability to score from set pieces they just need to be a bit more decisive in front goal i.e. less touches.

Totally agree and whilst it`s the dream to get to the PL you have to be very wise in who you bring in.
I too am not convinced Rutter and even Sinistera will make it in the PL but you never know.
Not too many teams get promoted and stay in the PL for long.
I have to say Brentford are very much the exception to the rule on what is probably a very tight budget compared to others.

Just bring the rules in line with most of Europe and set transfer/wages/and agent spend limits based on a percentage of club revenue. Much easier to police and enforce.

The whole things a farce. It seems the authorities are happy to throw an unprecedented 15 point deduction Leeds way and then the likes of Everton etc get treated with kid gloves and even get sanctions reduced on appeal. Jokers.

PSR is now dead an buried in it's current form after Leicester getting away on a technicality. It's unenforceable. Clubs can delay/alter their accounting dates to get around the rules just like Leicester have. Shambles. They cheated and got away with it knowing that the EPL and EFL couldn't touch them. They were on for at least a 9 to 10 point deduction according to the chap who is a football finance expert on the Athletic FC podcast.
