| Quote ="Willzay"In all seriousness, Brian Mc after the success he has brought your club deserves another season to atone for this, and to get rid of the many spineless players cough cough Hardaker.'"
This is probably the biggest issue though. Will they get rid of players and bring in the ones McDermott wants?
When you think of the type of player that personifies McDermott's spell it's one that reads 'experience, workhorse, leader'.....you look at the squad he's got now and it's depleted on all those things. Rumours of players he didn't want to keep like Burrow. Rumours of players he wanted to sign such as an experienced HB.
I'm pretty sure McDermott would've wanted to keep Aiton here but GH didn't make that happen. I'm also pretty sure that Falloon wouldn't have even made his Top 10 of potential replacements. A fan of workhorse 2nd rowers I'd suggest he wasn't the one who wanted Achurch. He's not a huge fan of throwing young lads in especially in key positions so I doubt he wanted Sutcliffe as Sinfield's replacement but was a more experienced option bought? No, and just like Burrow staying because GH said so this seems more like a GH approved squad than a BM preferred one.
And if you've not got the squad you wanted then no wonder cracks start to appear. GH will know what type of player/squad make-up McDermott would like and either should've given him it or replaced him earlier with a coach who saw it like GH did.
I think if McDermott had his way we'd be lining up like this right now....
6 - McGuire
7 - Gale
9 - Aiton
Instead we have Hetherington's - Sutcliffe, McGuire, Burrow/Falloon

| Regardless of squad make up the question for me is this.
Would this group of players being playing as bad if they were coached by: Powell, Wane, Green, Bellemy, Robinson - if the answer to that is yes then its not a coaching issue on the other hand if the answer is no?

When you says this group of players,if you mean the squad of 19 minus the injured crew, then I do not think they would get much more from them.Cannot see a silk purse from this sorry group at the moment without some changes in playing personel.Of the coaches mentioned Powell has taken 2.5 years to get to this point and still has won nothing,Wane has at least won the double but would you want his style of rugby at Leeds.Trent was a failure at Catalan but with a better quality squad of players in Aus looks decent.Green and Bellamy and the rest would struggled with the current fit players that McD has available to him at the moment. They would all struggle unless they brought in new blood.
You should compare apples with apples.

| It's not a given that they would be performing much better.
It's a tricky situation and so many factors are playing a part in leeds sitting at the bottom and not all are down to the coach and any incoming coach would have them issues to deal with still.
The players also must take some responsibility for their performances, for the first half u competed and if played like that for full 80 would be winning more games than losing. I do not believe that for one minute at half time bm would have said right that's great now go and throw game away!!
Undoubtedly things are not right at Leeds on and off the pitch I just don't think.it can all be put at mcdermotts door

| We are not even talking of winning games right now, competing is the first step.We haven't done that for the last three for sure, beaten by around 50 in all three.the cup game before that was also a game which we were never really in with a chance so you have to go back a month now to find a game where we competed for 80 minutes being the Huddersfield away game and if we are honest it was only because of our last ditch goaline defence and Hudds poor attack at the time that kept it close.
So what another coach could get out of this group now who knows, but what we know as fact right now is that Mcdermott can't even get them to compete for 80 minutes which is the most important thing to consider imo.

The point is no matter what team he puts out is McDermott getting the best out of the 19 players that take the field each week? Would Wane or Powell get the same standard and effort as McDermott is extracting from the 19? Its a given that Green, Robinson or Bellamy would not allow this debacle to have continued as long as this even with the injuries McDermott has had.
To say Robinson was a failure at Catalans is unfair - he was a huge success there and set a platform for what they are now achieving.
The job of the coach is to get the best performance out of the available players - it isn't about winning it about quality on the field.

| But with McGuire, Hardaker and Cuthbertson Leeds win these games easily.
Those bemoaning the squad now will still have had Leeds top four in the eve of season prediction comp. What has happened is the complete disintegration of a champion club in a few short months post Sinfield and Peacock.
McDermott won't turn this around, he's the one that has overseen it.

To say he has no influence on retention/recruitment is way off the mark ask the likes of Ben Cross Kyle Amor Clarkson Mullally etc EVERY ONE of em & more Mc.D had a say in as he did with Galloway & the final ok on Falloon.
GH sorts the contracts & uses his contacts to identify targets but the Coach has plenty of say.
Finally re-Aiton he pulled the trigger on his departure by playing the Club off v Catalans offer GH just doesn't negotiate like that.

Honestly, what is it with you? You vilify people for posting rumours & things they've heard "in the know", yet then claim (above) you know that BMD has wanted certain players into the club, but GH has refused him. Do you have any proof of this? Have you heard from any "insider" that this is so?
Or is it that, having hung your hat on "Mr McDermott isn't the problem here", you are desperately trying to find anything that might possibly lead others to believe that this might indeed be the case?
Just accept that sometimes you get it wrong & that BMD is not the man to take us into the future.
I have just had a look into the near future. BMD will get replaced & his successor will lose his first game in charge & The Printer & Juan will be on here saying "I told you so"

| Furner? Winner of just six games in his final season at Canberra, a season in which they finished second from bottom? With a 43% win percentage in the NRL as a head coach?
Perfect replacement for McDermott if true. Another with a connection to the senior players who'll do exactly what the CEO tells him to.

43% win percentage would have been enough to avoid the middle eights. Progress!

Pretty even in my book, Lancs batting isn't the strongest in the division.
From 29-4 I'm sure we'd all have taken 301-9 at the close.
The lack of the toss means that Yorks will nearly always have to bat first at Headingly if there's any cloud cover.

| Furner was seen as a disaster at the Raiders. If we were going ex-Leeds players I'd go for Dunemann. However, since that shouldn't matter one jot, I'd be looking at a Brian Smith type for this year followed by a review with all key positions potentially up for grabs (I'm looking at you conditioning/fitness staff) and hopefully a fresh start for next year with a new ambitious coach.
Alternatively right now I'd consider giving Smith (or whoever) the job for the whole of next year as well, to give continuity but also give him a remit that all that matters is survival this year and getting into the top 8 next year, plus revamping junior development etc. Daniel Anderson might be available as well.

For me i'll be happy if as long as we have a solid staff structure i.e Head Coach 1xAttack & 1xDefence Coaches throw Sinny in for the Kicking role that'd do me.
The 2 assist then also take charge of a reserve grade side in consultation with the u19 Coach.
Then id like a seperate Acadamy DOR who also Coaches the u19's.

There's always a big risk IMO in getting in someone who played alongside current players.

Because I think him and Sinfield (also played alongside current players) will make a great team structure throughout the club. Fully professional, intelligent, exemplary individuals who were at the very top of the game. Sinfield running everything outside of the first team, but also assisting Buderus, and Buderus full control of first team. The changes will take a couple of years anyway to start to take effect. Let them grow together.

| Isn't that just randomly picking a couple of names from the hat? There's no evidence Buderus is a good coach or administrator (yet) and even less that Sinfield is. There's also the issue of whether it might be better to go for someone from outside the club if you want to shake things up. Would Sinfield be able to tell the likes of JJB and Burrow that their time is up?

Sinfield wouldn't need to tell them, Buderus would. A job that should have allready been handled by the too big hearted CEO. The question is whether both would want the job, not whether up to it. Of course they are both more than up to it, a potential great duo.

Powell did it to half the team he won a CC final playing alongside & there's no evidence Sinfield wouldn't either.
On that point though im also sure Jjb & Burrow are honest enough to know whethet their time is up or not or even that their minutes will naturally reduce.
Also it could depend what type of Contract was on offer im sure Jjb only has till the end if this year anyway & does RB have another year?

It's overcast for large parts of today according to the weather forecast, so you may be right.
Without Bairstow in the ranks, I'm not confident that Yorkshire will retain their CC title this year. Top order batsmen are too fragile and don't get enough runs. Same applied last year. I lost count of the number of times early wickets were lost prior to Bairstow coming to the rescue.
