| Quote ="batleyrhino"It's a little harsh to accuse a 19 year old of a lack of experience. Wasn't Martin Offiah 19 once?
I know you like Fox, but for me he falls into the Ade Gardner box, fast in a straight line but prone to big brainfarts.
It's not like we have great competition for wing spots (Ryan Hall only needs to avoid losing a leg to have a long International career) but of the two England wingers on show on Saturday, I'd say Briscoe was the better performer, and thus has "earned" the right to a shirt in front of Fox.
However we all know that "earned" seems to mean nothing with the squad selection of TS so far...
[size=59(for the record, I'm not comparing Tom Briscoe with Martin Offiah)[/size'"
You could argue that Fox in the late part of the season has made as many errors as Ainscough did for Wigan when he was in the first team, but Ainscough was scoring tries for fun.
Back to the discussion, I'd have Briscoe before Fox, but may consider playing Lee Smith (although why Smith is even in the squad is a source of amazement and concern).

Because he's finished with Rugby League. I would much rather we had blooded someone like Michael Lawrence.
Do you think that say a current rugby Union winger announced that he was coming to play rugby League that he would be considered for the Rugby union 5 Nations tournament.
It's nothing against Smith, it's IMO a wasted opportunity to blood someone who will be around for a few years.

Depends if you're planning on trying to win, or if you think it's some kind of training experience.
You have to pick the best team available.

Because he said he'd retired from international rugby league.
Although he did hint that he might make himself available, that's as far as he went with that.

Because he's a contracted Super League player.
Are you suggesting I'm not sensible or that I'm not a rugby league fan?
Are you also suggesting that CC and GF winner Tony Smith is stupid?

| Richie,
You're trying to use logic in an argument with what sounds like a typical chip on the shoulder Northern rugby league fan, and a Goon to boot.
Lee Smith should be burned at the stake for his heretical actions, not rewarded with an England jersey.
England should also not be picking a team to win the second biggest international tournament in the sport on home turf, but should be chucking a bunch of inexperienced lambs to the slaughter so they can "build experience". (That "experience" being how to stand behind your posts while the Aussies and Kiwis attempt conversions apparently).
You're not the stupid one in this argument.

| Tony Smith has lost the plot and it isnt often I agree with Danny Lockwood but he has cut off his nose to spite his face with his selection policy.
The Sykes call beggars belief so surely must be a two fingured salute to those who dont belive in the Smith "I know best" ego.
The back line looks like a disaster waiting to happen and I wouldnt be surprised to see the Aussies rattle up 50 which would damage any credibility SL currently has.

Fox is good but has had a rotten end to the year, if Smith is picking "on form" then Fox is not the man.
I agree on Sykes, I can't see anything that he could offer to help beat NZ or Aus.

| I've always been a believer in awarding caps for the here and now. Briscoe is already Fox's equal in my view and has more potential. I'd pick him over Fox for those two reasons.
Hall and Briscoe would be my choices on the wings.

Me too, particularly if Sinfield is in, who will likely be the central playmaker anyway.

| Eastmond and Roby on the bench? Presumably when Eastmond comes on it will be at loose and Sinfield will switch to second row, leaving the pack looking very lightweight.
Don't doubt that team will have more than enough to see off a pretty woeful French side, but there needs to be another front line forward on the bench for the two games to come afterwards IMO.

| I think Eastmond is there in case Myler has a mare.
Not a bad looking side to play the French. Hopefully Morely will show a bit more than last week.
I'm not sure why we need two hookers though. I don't think that works..

| It's an underwhelming bench for me also and one I hope is a variety just for the French.
It will indeed be interesting to see how Eastmund is used during the game.
