| So basically, Donald did what Mark Calderwood spent years doing (remember his failure to drop on a loose ball at Odsal in the playoffs, kicking at it instead and conceding a try?) and now all of a sudden its the most cowardly act ever witnessed on a professional rugby league field?
Welcome back to being the scapegoat Scott. Have a word with Franny at training, he'll be able to tell you what it's like if you've forgotten from your first season already.

I said on this thread I would only look at his positives from the other night.
But I think the comparison you have made is exactly why there is this sort of thread.
Everything good about Calderwood, is what is weak with Donald. i.e. puttin his body on the line to defend, and in an attacking sense chase kicks.
I still thought he played well for the most part on Tuesday though.

Let's be right here, this new improved defensive Mark Calderwood has only arisen in the last couple of years because he's had to find other ways to look good given the lack of running chances he had at Wigan and now Hull.
Hard work from marker apart, I don't recall him cutting too many people in half with his fearless tackling in a Leeds shirt.

Never said he had fearless tackling.
What he did do is chase down kicks extremely well, and on many occassions he got a drop out, or enforced other errors. At the very least he left it so that we were defending as deep into the oppossition half as possible.
That is the complete oppossite of what Donald do us for us now.
Thats all. There is of course parts of Donalds game that is better.

Whilst I know what you're getting at, in open field he was hardly a defensive guru, there was also the defensive aspect of his kick chase work, which was most famously demonstrated in the 2004 Grand Final.

| Calders was better densively than Donald ever has been.
He marked big les out of a lot of games using his work rate to chase kicks aimed at him. He also showed guts by putting his body about and did a fair few cumberland throws into touch in his days at leeds.
Donald is very good at scoring trys and being a softcock but very poor at being a worker. He covers up his weak areas to the sheep by scoring but those that watch can see him for what he is.
I would have got shut pre season and now it turns out the second best out and out winger at the club has landed another year. Deary me today eddie

Ah, I see criticism is banned on here again. I think everyone slated Calderwood for that kick across his in goal area, and rightly so. Donald has not got anywhere near the level of form he showed in the previous 2 seasons, and that's dissapointing. When he then appears to shy away from certain situations, I think it's worth pointing out. I

| Tell me is this the same Donald that always puts his body on the line in defence and 95% of the time succeds in bringing his opposite man down?

He's missed 20% of his tackles if I'm interpreting this correctly ([urlhttp://www.superleague.co.uk/statistics_player.php?hs1=2009&hp1=1096&hs2=2009&hp2=&stat=tries&season=2009[/url) so 95% seems a tad generous.

Maybe a bit exagerated, more around 80% over the 3.5 years hes been here. I wonder if the 'keyboard warriors' could have done better?

Ok so you think missing 20% of the tackles he has attempted is exceptable for a pro RL player?
I know if I missed 20% of my targets my business would go down the pan.

You're referring to the incident where he sped off his right wing to help defend a kick through on our left, where he was undone by the bounce of the ball just on the left goal post centre field but still got back behind it before a Hull player could re-gather
His decision to look for that defensive work in a part of the field he did not need to be in saved a Hull try.
He repeated this feat 5 mins later and made a 40 metre break that was decisive an important try when the game was still in the balance.
Ramrod is either a very good troll or a moron so its' no surprise that he's taken this stance but that so many of you have fallen into his trap shows that not only do we have the worst fans in the league but the least knowledgeable.

The two are not mutually exclusive. I'm not sure I'd put Ramrod in either camp though. possibly he leans more toward the former despite the OTT nature of his persona's character.

Shite in his first season....more of the same this season.....I reckon we've been sold a pig in a poke
... and if you factor into the equation the shed load of tries scored on his wing due to our Aussie gingher being waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of position......?
I do hope GH has kept the receipt.

Nothing to do with his centre pairing, or him taking time to acclimatise, or being in a team that was generally getting battered in the pack. Also, 23 tries is a pretty good return for someone so poor.
