I am not missing the point, but I think you are.
Like I said in a previous post, it is setting a dangerous precedent for players and teams in SL.
If you do it for one, others will want it too. Are you seriously saying that for any SL who is linked to RU, the RFL should put money towards that players contract to keep him in SL???
Are you an agent by any chance???

| Quote ="LS16_Rhino"Back on thread.
This is starting to me off.
I’m getting a bit sick of the RFU (and to be honest it’s the RFU that fund these poaching raids into the Super League not the clubs themselves) throwing a shed load of wonga at our players just to see if they can cut it playing rah-rah rugby.
What hacks me off even more is that the RFL can do fekk all about it.
We find, nurture and develop these youngsters, invest time, money and effort in them and just when they’re starting to show true potential along come the RFU with a big bag of shiny gold and whip players from right under our noses.
When these players don’t quite cut it they get returned to us a shadow of their former selves.
Why can’t they just f**k off.'"
Did you get this wound up back in the 80's when league was poaching all the union players?

I think you;re frustrated at your own inability to make your point.
As you have such grave concern over this issue why don't you answer DoubleAone's question higher up the thread?

| Quote ="EmmaMur01"So the RL are going to put up loads of money to keep a player to play full back who is playing centre for his team??
KR fans wax lyrical about Briscoe and the ones I have spoken to feel he would do a good job at FB for England. In our own team, Leeds are looking after BJB and from what I have seen of him, feel he could be a future full back for England. I dont know enough about other teams academy kids, but I feel there will be some good up and coming full backs out there.
It is a dangerous precedent. You di it for one, others will want it too.'"
Your missing the point Emma. You are not wrong from your point, but you are missing the point.
We now have 14 teams in Super League, and we want the quality to improve considerably. There is already a lack of quality players going around to accomodate those teams, to keep a good quality level playing field. Everybody wants to reduce overseas players, this places a further burden on the need for quality british players.
Why therefore not do anything as a game to ensure good quality british players are not lost to the game?
The RFL should in some way, maybe subsidise in salary cap for homegrown academy players (discussed previosly) to help us as a game not lose quality british players from Super League.

No. Only if it's a concrete offer or there is serious chance of losing them to RU.
No. I just want to keep English talent in SL. Thats all, you know seeing as we're a tad short on English talent anyway....

I know what you are saying about British players, but if a player wants to go and try the other code, he is going to. IMO I want players who want to play for my team, and for England, not players who have been swayed by money and are not enthusiastic about it.

No. I am saying that any quality british player, possibly below a certain age, there should be some assistance to keep him in the game. That quality of course has to have some kind of measurement. But you can hardly argue on an International.
Possibly that help does not have to come direct in money terms from the RFL. It could be in the form on concessions on the salary cap for homegrown academy produced products. Therfore encouraging the use more of British players.
I dont have the answer, but the fact we now have 14 teams, and more players required to spread around, we should do all we can to stop people leaving the game.

I know what you are saying but you can't knock a player from wanting to secure thier future financially. Smith is one of our best talents at present who should only get better and the RFL should help keep him in the game.
They wouldn't be able to keep all the english players but should do everything in thier power tokeep their best talent.

In the sense of the team structure when we lost him, I think the club IMO had a void to fill and to put a young Kevin Sinfield into the gap
yes the club benefited financially from Harris going

No such actual activity is required for jerking knees to start hitting tables in RL land. This flap happens on message boards every time a player is linked with a move to RU. I mean, when Walker and Ashton left Doomsday was upon us. There is, in fact, a disturbing parallel between this mind set and the "21st December 2102" thread...

Ye, whats Sinfield done, eh.
Every player has a price and GH will decide what Lee Smiths price is to Leeds, We can all remember the same outcry when we "lost" Walker, Mathers, Scrutton etc.
Its no big deal players move, get over it (if it happens).

| Maybe it could have the opposite effect of that predicted by the gloom merchants.
Any young rugby ambitious player who likes to have the ball in hand should seek out his nearest league club. If he's any good and breaks through into a SL team he'll immedialtely be in the shop window for all RU teams.
Bingo!! RL is in a win win situation. Some will stay some will go but just imagine the impact in Wales, London and even France, players beating a path to our door to be fast tracked into RU.
How ironic is that?

| Harris situation a mess? is that what ive just read??
Best bit of business/management GH has ever done, Harris left, we got a huge transfer fee, the team that then assembled in the years to follow has been a very very successful one, Sinfield has been a better captain than harris was for Leeds and also Mcguire has been a better standoff and will be for the future.
Yes a right royal mess that was!
