At the time playing smith in place of hall was possibly the right call.

They were both competing for the wing spot and smith had more experience whereas hall seemed low on confidence.

As it happened webb got injured so they both played in the semi.

Hall did a good job and went on to play and score in the grand final as well, he's never really looked back.

I think Hall is an average (at best) winger and nothing I have seen since I made those comments has persuaded me otherwise. He has the potential to maybe cut it as a centre but as a winger – No.

IMO I would have been correct in letting him go but some folk on here think I should in some way be embarrassed about my previous comments just because he currently finishes tries that have been handed to him on a plate.

Not all his tries have been handed on a plate though, IMO. He's plucked a few out of the air above the opposition winger, and probably more importantly, is yet to bomb a try scoring opportunity. What more can you ask from a winger? Fair play Smith is good for one or two breaks from dummy half per season, but I don't think he'd have been any better than Hallhas been this season. The good thing about Smith and Hall is their workrate.

Have a look at Hall's try in the 2007 Grand Final - that was the finish of a talented and game aware winger.

Take a look at his try from distance against Les Catalans at Murrayfield, pace a lot of folk on here didn't think he had.

He's undoubtedly aided by playing inside the best centre ever to play in SL, but to say that he's getting finishes handed to him on a plate is shabby IMO.
