Another who is the exception rather than the rule. Just because some players do play into their late 30s, doesn't mean they all can. The other thing to consider is that, although he may be up to 2 years, a serious injury in that period could call an end to his career, where a players earlier in their career could make the recovery. To be honest, with a good number of frontline props in the squad for next year, I'd hope we'd be less reliant on Peacock, both to help prolong his career, and also to prepare us for when he's no longer around.

| Considering the comments attributable to kirke that have been posted on here, I presume that includes changing his mindset and training regime from a short period stop gap to a frontline contributor to the matches.

If our coaching team can transition Kirke into having a frontline role in the side I'd be impressed. I think we'll have to look elsewhere for a sucessor to JP, if thats what you're alluding to there

| If Kirke ends up playing a frontline role I'd be somewhat worried about the effectiveness of our secondary forwards.

The article says SBW unlikely to return to League. If the offer was from the Rhinos does this mean Gary H now goes to next on list ie Tuilagi?

It's probably us, because we have the most cap space. Realistically Griffin and Moore will be taking Cross and Burgess's salary. Even considering improved deals for some of the youngsters, there's still the bulk of the combined salaries of Senior, Buderus and Lauititi to work with.
Whether SBW would want to come to SL is another matter.

I agree the offer is probably from us because we have the cap space. However it says that it's been confirmed behind closed doors that SBW is not returning to League. Is that not the end of it or do we trust GH's negotiating skills to become a Rhino. It will be great if it comes off!

I find it difficult to believe that GH would break the wage structure with such a big offer for one player personally.

I agree. Would still prefer Watkins and Hardaker as starting centres next season...SBW too expensive and too old.
The money should be used for any available quality [iyoung[/i uns that will enhance and better the team....or not at all.
Might make an exception for another Buderus however

I also think his signing is unlikely but I was surprised when GH signed Harris, Ali and Buderus so he might have something up his sleeve! SBW would cetainly add to the squad and would generate loads of publicity. I hope it comes off. What's GH's plan B if we don't get SBW?

| It'd be nice to get SBW. The money made off his name alone would be a bonus to the club as im sure the sponsorships would be sky high. However for the cost i'd sooner we spent the money on transfer fees and signed up some high quality english youngsters. Burgess at bradford being one of them

or saints?!? (There board have stacks of cash and they've lost the likes of Pryce and Eastmond)
As others have said can't imagine GH throwing money at SBW (would be a hell of a signing though *if* his head/heart was in it)

| Even if we could afford him, I'd rather SBW go somewhere else. This is a guy who used to talk about how all his Bulldogs teammates were his 'bros', then proceeded to royally shaft by walking out mid-season. He was also very injury prone in his last season or so in league, and listens to Anthony Mundine for advice, so he's not so bright.
BTW, whilst we may have lost the wages of Burgess, Cross, Senior, Buderus and Lautiti, I'd expect all the contracts for our younger stars have been seriously upgraded.

| SBW has signed for Chiefs on a 12-month contract. Time for us to speculate about someone else.

| 12 months at the Chiefs then back to the NRL by the looks of it.
Who else could we be after then? There is a lack of talent available out there at the moment unless transfer fees are involved

| We are not after anyone, I don't expect any more signings to be made for next season. If we are willing to give te kids the shirts now, then the experience they will gain will put us back in a good position in a couple of years time. Sometimes you have to consider taking a perceived step backwards to be able to go forwards again.
It worked in 2001-3, and look what we finished up with on the back of that.....

I'm personally quite happy with that, if that is the way we actually do go. Which means try and get out of the new Webb deal, try and get out of the new Kylie deal, and stop playing Ablett at centre unless the identified future are out.
Then we can start to work on what we have and get them ready and prepared for the future. If we go with what we currently have then those future kids you talk of are not going to get the opportunities they need now.
