I do hope he does come good. I was worried that he may have gotten complacent as BJB is on his way and regarded himself an auto pick in the side. Hopefully not the case and he will keep on improving.

Spot on these two posts. I've said before Watkins gets a free pass on here when he doesn't have a big game and the blame is always laid on the door of others not giving him opportunities. Well he had a great opportunity yesterday and didn't take it.

I've watched the game back again, and Briscoe was indeed better than I gave him credit for, his overall contribution was very good. At the time it certain things stick in the mind like the couple of errors he made, and sometimes you forget the small but essential contributions a player makes over the course of the game.

Told me he wants to come back to Hull....say's that silly song they sing,even when the match has kicked off makes him vomit.

You may have a point about the grace Watkins is given which is probably due to his freakish talents. However the incident yesterday do not illustrate your point. Watkins may have given the ball a little early but he still gave his winger the ball, early and in space with room to run. The ball was in Briscoe's hands. To somehow lay the blame for the knock on at Watkins feet is plain silly.

Anyway, back to the point of the thread, Andy Gilder has nailed it. That said, he had a poor year last year at Hull and it was written off due to his contract situation, if we're putting this year down to his new club situation lets hope Briscoe focuses on his rugby next year.

On a more serious note, neither wing has been seeing too much of the ball this season, apart from making drives out of defence. That probably makes things tougher in terms of building confidence.

He hasn't always sparkled as he can, he is a little short of his best form IMVHO. The partnership with Watkins also hasn't clicked as it could. But he always puts a big shift in bringing the ball out, and that's a very good thing. Especially as his slight loss of form and issues with the link up with his centre are entirely fixable.

Not laying the blame for knocking on at Watkins feet solely, think we've all said Briscoe should've still caught it but on replay you can see he wasn't expecting such an early pass and was somewhat caught out by the quickness he received it. Had Briscoe caught it he still had Rhys Evans to get around when really Watkins should've drawn Evans in and left Briscoe with a clear run down the wing with perhaps only the FB to stop him.....had he caught the original pass nothing would've come of it most likely due to the Wire winger still being in place to stop Briscoe.

If's, buts and maybe's.

He has been playing well within himself for a few weeks now, but then again so have many of our more established players too.

Hall and Briscoe have struggled in patches of games this year, we havent seen the usual level of try feasts from Hall or a prolonged try run from Briscoe either, but when you have two strike centres in Moon and Watkins inside you who have the speed and guile inside you to finish instead of you, then hey..........

Oh well then, might as well knock it on and give Warrington the possession.....

He started like a house on fire but his dip seemed to come when he was rested then moved to accomodate BJB. Hopefully his try on Saturday will the spring board for him to get back to his best.

Watching the game back in the pre game piece with JP, Briscoe is the fastst in the squad and has been recorded a 10.2m/s this season. (Thats 9.81 secs for the 100m)

Come on, he has just divided 100m by 10.2.

Thing is though, he wouldn't be able to do 100m in that time. What he will have been timed on is 50m or shorter. It is the speed off the mark they look at most.

And it was that speed off the mark that got him that try on Saturday, and why not many others including Hall would not have got it.

There is no way they recorded that from a standing start. It'll be peak time for one second in the middle of a sprint. There's no point translating it to 100m times. Otherwise Briscoe would be European sprint record holder and would have won Olympic gold every year except the last two. And given Bolt wasn't wearing rugby boots he might even have a chance against him.

I@m pretty sure they interview Peacock and one of the Leeds conditioners and they said Briscoe was the fastest at the club and ran 100m in just under 11 or 12 seconds.

That would be more like it.

He looked slow off the mark to me. Evans caught him quite easily. Still a good fend and finish but speed off the mark didn't spring to mind, bearing in mind Evans will have needed to change the direction of his run.

Was a neat change of the ball and fend from Briscoe.

Evans will be disappointed he committed himself that early, as you said he comfortably caught him so should have bided his time.
