| Quote ="Sal Paradise"The biggest problem for me is we don't present an attacking threat - I thought they had been working on a structured attack and getting away from the of the cuff stuff. Who is going to organise the attack? That is the frustration for me in Ward he should offer some attacking threat e.g. Ablett of year ago but he is too easily contained. Parcell is another - at the end of the first half he couldn't even get to the PTB never mind his contribution to two of the tries.'"
Actually the only player that I was really worried about being out of his depth last night was Myler (then again, difficult after the forwards were so passive). Hope he proves me wrong over the season.

Jury's out on Myler for me.. he hasn't done anything in Leeds colours yet to show he's a grand final winning half back. He does need a good pack to play off though I do agree.

| From my position of armchair coach of the year I saw it like this;
Walker - bulked up, had good impact coming forward just needs a bit of a passing game.
Briscoe - worked hard off own line, no real chances. Knock on came at a bad time.
Watkins - got overrun too often but wroked hard off own line. Key was getting minutes for him.
Hurrell - worked hard, need to be careful we don't burn him out using him as a battering ram in own 20. Should have scored but for Hughes.
Handley - again worked hard, charnley is top class opposition and did ok with him.
Tui - did he play? Went missing apart from the odd poor up and under. Yes he was behind a beaten pack but had very little impact.
Myler - similar to Tui, didn't see much of him, offered little control and leadership
Cuthbo- not a prop at this level, couldn't get the off loads working.
Parcel - no fast PTBs to work with which makes him look average.
Merrin - sad to see him at prop. Assume he played there due to lack of other options. Loves a penalty. Get him in the back row.
Ferres - slimmer trimmer but still a shadow of his Hudds days. Only seems interested when it kicks off.
Ward - tried hard but little end result. Thank God he scored.
Sutty - as with every position he plays he does ok but ok is not good enough.
Singo - runs tirelessly but we we all saw the difference between the Warrington and Leeds forwards impact. Singo is symptomatic of this.
Dwyer - he's a bit marmite for people but he looks better than parcel behind a beaten pack.
Oledski - not good enough at the level week in week out yet. Gets schooled every time I see him. Being big on its own is not good enough.
Donaldson - did everything I would expect of him and what he was brought for. He isn't going to change a game for us though.
I know this all sounds negative, and some will say my knees are jerking but it's how I saw it. Things will get better but there won't be any miracles occuring.

| Thought suttcliffe was ok, miles better than ferres, who id happily never see in a leeds shirt again, that belly flop whilst failing to get a single finger on Clarke to complete the tackle before he scored was laughable. Agree with all who want to see a backrow of Merrin at 13, Ward and Smith. My opinion on ferres isnt knee jerk, he's been absolute rubbish since he got here. Think Furner got the pack wrong last night, we were too small at prop and Cam Smith deserves a chance over ferres whos a big name, big money waste of time.
I thought we'd struggle to win last night but was massively dissapointed with how we played, we looked as unstructured on attack as we did last season... ferres kicking on the last, Oledzki taking a hitup on the last etc, Myler should be getting hold of these situations, he was very poor last night.
Had visions of Ward or Smith playing the ballplaying left second row ala Sutton at souths, instead we got brett flamin Ferres doing absolutely nothing useful in that role.
Im actually one of the few who quite like Handley but he needs to be finishing that chance at the end, he's got to step in off his left, didnt matter last night but in a close game chances like that need to be taken and would be by most wingers in SL.
Thought Walker was good and Dwyer and Donaldson were decent off the bench, Merrin looked decent but think the speed suprised him, confident all our NRL signings will be much better in a few week.
Lots to work on and iron out but still think we'l have a decent season, absolutely gutted right now but looking forward to friday.

| Keep the faith, anyone who would have thought we would win the first game must be in dream land. We were taken apart from by a pack which verged on near violence. Their pack play on the edge, some of their tackles were borderline at best, I thought the ref played to their crowd at times, However saying that we need to be smarter we also need to pay the ref, we also need to be more voilent in the tackle, we will learn, dont worry we will get better, we are playing under a new coach, so we need to learn and adapt to his methods, KW is not yet match fit, Parcell was to me the biggest let down, he is in his last season I hope his head is not on the plane home, and we can make changes in the pack, next week we will see some changes and we will see a better performance, we may not win but it will get better , keep the faith

| For sure you can't blame Briscoe really or largely Walker because the pair of them were starved of any ball possession.
Leeds arguably most lethal edge wasted. Myler kept switching it back to the left over and over, which is bewildering when Wire left edge with Charnley and Goodwin seems a realistic target over that of Atkins and Lineham.

Thought Leeds got a lot of joy from attacking our left wing in the first 10-15 minutes. Hurrell on one leg made this less effective. Charnley pulled off two try saving tackles on the other side.

I never said Goodwin was poor in defence, I said Charnley and Goodwin look a more realistic target than Atkins and Lineham to attack and the lack of testing they had. It wasn't helped by Myler switching back to the left to attack instead of pushing it right.
The Warrington defence was superb right across the board.

| My take on our position. We looked so weak last night. Our forwards aren’t big enough, playing Merrin at prop is a waste of time and money we won’t get the best of him there. Parcell had nothing to work off, as we got dominated. There was no get up and go to meet them in defence, they made easy metres. Tackling was very weak and the basics of not wrapping the ball up, I can’t remember how many offloads they got but wow. Lolohea was nowhere to be seen and same for Myler. Using Hurrell as a utility style prop will only get him injured and not using him at his best. Handley and Briscoe looked pathetic against Charnley and Lineham and were easily brushed aside and rarely made metres. Bringing Dwyer on with 15 minutes to go was a waste as he made an impact as soon as he came on, he should have been used earlier. Ferris tried a bit but was too quiet, Watkins looked a bit scared but that comes naturally he should be ok soon. Stevie Ward tried but got used too much and he will just get inured again as he puts his body on the line. Cuthbertson is not a prob and just got dominated. Singleton made no impact with the size of their pack. Donaldson tried, Jack Walker was quiet aswell. Overall we need size and a general otherwise we will just get ted every week. Very disappointing and so much to work on.

| Is Sir Kev starving the likes of Petrou of game time so he’ll get sick of it, find another club and free up some cap space for a big hard Barrie Mac type prop? Time will tell but to have an overseas player (and prop) in the squad and not play them against a big Warrington side doesn’t make sense.

Not sure but got told Peteru had an injury so wasn't playing for that reason. Don't know if it's true or not or what injury was. In truth I don't think it would've made a scrap of difference.
I certainly think the above is the case with certain contracted fringe players but not Peteru at this stage.

I’m not sure there will be nany cganges next week, think he will stick with this line up for a 2-3 more games , barring injuries, he then will gave a better idea in who deserves the shirt, i don’t think knee jerk reactions will help anything, its nif like we were beaten 50-0 or anything they had a hot 20 mind befire galf time and that won them the game, last years side would have just bent over and given up. Last night was a disappointment was hoping for more, but its a ling seadon improvnent over next 2-3 weeks is what we need.

You may be right but what is the evidence for your view?
We can’t effect any big improvement without the pack getting some field position and controlling the middle better, end of for me. I’m not convinced we have the props to do that this year, and we’re already playing back rowers in the front row again.

Well, if Peteru isn’t in the first team squad when fit then he’s yet another gonner for 2020. Mullaly looks shot too if we’re playing Merrin over him. There is no point retaining senior squad players like this with Holroyd, Mustapha, Dupree etc coming through.

| Now that the dust has settled, the result is pretty much what we should have expected, but the performance was very disappointing.
There wasn’t much intelligence shown with or without the ball, and technique was poor all round. We will struggle to go forward against bigger packs but we knew this before last night. What we didn’t do and I expected us to, was show some sharp with the ball, and draw in players before passing. We looked dumb.
The rebuild was always a 2-3 year thing, and we are clearly playing some players we would prefer not to, probably to send messages to other in the squad that they need to move on, allowing some space to bring in a metre munching prop.
We will improve in the next few weeks, maybe not enough to get some results against the better teams, but most of all the fans need to see some green shoots otherwise the attendances might suffer from a lack of walk ups.
It’s a fine line between success and failure in sport, but we are still on the wrong side of it at the moment.

| If we do not have the power in the pack to produce decent go forward then the coach should change tactics and move the ball wide and play to our strengths ie the backs. In the game the other night Saints moved the ball wide at every opportunity against Wigan and made far more metres than when they went up the middle.
