Its amazing how frail most SL backs are. Hardaker looked and played like a junior yet to develop physically when he played for the Panthers.I know you can't just magic up athletes but surely SL can do better?

It took Zak a very long time to put size on.
There could be a genetic component to the athleticism of young lads in the NRL compared to here, particularly regarding the south sea island heritage players.
I also don't know how rigorous drug testing is (in either hemisphere) with young lads. You do wonder seeing the size of some of them whether they've had some artificial help along the way. It's super-competitive to make the cut and you could see why some might cheat to get there.
Thing is if we can't out-muscle NZ, Tonga, Aus then we need to outplay them and we can't do that either.

I’ve always thought the Aussies look more “athletic” than we do. They seem to get players who look entirely at ease whilst running with the ball like a 100m sprinter would run at 3/4’s pace.
The only English player who has looked similar to me in recent times is Watkins. Maybe Senior before him. |

Can't do with the commentators frothing over how 'good' GB are today. Not been disrespectful but we should beat PNG really.
It's the same old thing of when the pressure is off and the test series lost a team comes out and plays with more freedom. We need to figure out how to play well under pressure.

Can we just get Jonathan Davies to run out great sport. Speaks sense about what's happening on the pitch and off it. It can't be rocket science to promote a game as skillful and explosive as ours yet every year we struggle.

Lions Whitewashed As PNG Compound Tour Misery
The Great Britain Lions were looking to restore a modicum of pride at the end of a disastrous tour as they travellled to the rugby league cauldron of Port Moresby to take on a determined Papua New Guinea side who were intent on sending the Lions home on the back of a four game whitewash.
Papua New Guinea are currently ranked as the tenth best in the world, behind Scotland and Lebanon, this match was scheduled to be a gentle wind down and bridge building exercise at the end of the tour. The Kumuls would have different ideas, wanting to compound the Lions misery in front of a sell out, fervent, home crowd.
Despite a late afternoon kick-off the temperatures were still high and the Lions would have to cope with high humidity and the noisiest of partisan stadiums.

It’s clear Bennet does not rate super league, if your an Aussie playing in SL with a UK heritage your in the team, plus too many English players who are in OZ simply walk into the team, Bennet has become a dinosaur, blown away, we had no answer to PNG in the second half. Bennet surely has to walk away from this after this tour.

Bennett has to go now when he came in as England coach he took is in a forward direction but now we've gone 2 or 3 steps backwards with his coaching and team selection, i suspect GB will disband again now and Eng, Sco, Wal, and Ire will focus on there own goals heading into 2021 world cup and the future, think this tour proves that the home nations and SL need a international break in there calendar to keep up with the rest of international teams as they are on the up and we do not want to drop down the pecking order any further a mid season test is key imo for England rugby League. I hope Bennett does go and hopefully someone like Shaun Wane will take over the national team building up to world cup we need to get all the best talent in super league and nrl in there natural positions and playing like a team again.

Just going to put this out there but Brian McD should be considered for GB too. He has the best track record of any British coach getting teams up for big games.
I’m not sure changing Wayne will change our fortunes because I don’t think our player pool is strong enough, but I can’t see how he survives this tour now.
Also I don’t and never have really agreed with getting your “best 13” on the pitch almost regardless of position. Specialist skills are vital as it knowing instinctively what your role is at this level. GB lacked in many areas - too slow, not enough creativity, not enough punch.

I can see benefits of Wane and he is available but my preferred option would be Powell. Worked wonders at CAS with little to no resource, would like to see what he can do with a bigger and in theory better player pool.
Will play a SL style and the players would understand what they are doing. It might not get us a world cup but we would be back playing well and being competitive.
