And actually I agree that rugby league and SL cannot sustain P&R and they should just announce a 14 team SL for next season now - but that’s not going to happen.

What I am questioning is your judgment on olayers, Robert Lui may not be the top of the list of signings but he is far from the dud you are trying to make out. I’ll ask you now who would you orfer to be at 6 for us on Sunday, Liam Sutcliffe or Robert Lui?

It’s short term thinking though. Yes he’s better than sutcliffe. But I’d want neither in reality. And I’d probably rather put up with sutcliffe if it meant we got the required player next year

Signing a player that could possibly keep us up in SL is short term thinking but I’m sorry to tell you that’s the situation were in.

We are looking long term by getting rid of Watkins and Parcell plus hopefully Ferres, unfortunately we are in a relegation battle and short term solutions are needed

Any improvement in the halves has to be seen as a positive given the perilous position they find themselves next season may be too late. 2 halfbacks are needed, he could turn out to be one depending on the recruitment of an organising half. I don’t think anyone’s doing backflips about the potential signing of lui but most can see the current pairing is a shower of .... and the team needs change however small to give them a better chance of avoiding bottom.

Hmmm struggling to see Lui as a top HB in SL

Well, there’s 6 teams accounted for there, if he’s good enough to get leeds to 7th he’ll more than do for now.

Shot term thinking?? Its far from it. It securing the clubs future. Lui is one of the better half backs in the league no doubt. Ask any Salford fan and they are gutted to lose him. Hes been on of their best players. Lui stats are impressive this season hes in the top 6 for try assists and attacking kicks and has made more tackles than hastings. Hes also in the top 3 or 4 for 40 20 kicks. Hes strong skilfull and creative. Our halves are no where to be seen. Ill settle for that.

Lui is better than Richardson and Patten

I don't think anyone is arguing that Lui is better than Hastings or some of the better halfbacks in SL. What I and some others are arguing is that we absolutely have to do something now because our halfbacks aren't even championship standard as a combination and we need at least one who is halfway decent. Now. Not next season, because if we wait until then to get Hastings or Maloney we might well be in the Championship ourselves.

The downside as ever of such desperation is that it may put back our rebuilding further because we end up with someone like Lui instead of a Hastings next year. That's the price of mismanagement and not doing something far earlier. If that's the price of staying up sobeit.

Id take either younger HB both are better attacking kickers imo & have their careers & prime ahead of them.

As an aside, the Mole reckons that the Titans coach wasn't involved in signing Watkins and didn't particularly want him. That's pretty hard on Kallum if its the case.

Reading between the lines, I don't think it will be a problem as Brennan is likely to be gone before or shortly after Kallum arrives.

It’s not even a suspicion; we’re rumoured to still be in for Hastings in addition to Lui.

Don’t forget both KS and Agar played half back. They have both talked about our poor kicking game. It’s clear they’re not impressed with our current combinations.

Yes we’ve been making desperation signings in part ever since the wheels fell off half way through last year.

We don’t have the luxury of time in a P&R situation. I think KS is making decisions and changes as best he can. Actually impressed with Ava, he looks very handy (but needs more support in the pack).

Problem is we have very limited strike, so all other teams have to do is shut down three or four Leeds players to beat us. It also means those few players are getting the ball in terrible situations against organised defences.

Kallum’s wages aren’t that significant for an NRL club compared to some. They have decided they can afford to take a risk on him recovering his England form in their
environment.

Peter Smith confirmed we are looking to replace both halves. Myler must be looking over his shouler big time which will unsettle him so we need to get the move done imo.

They cant have any plans for Mclellend to break through in the near future then.
However at least there'll be a reserve grade for him to step into if he dorsnt go on loan or dual reg.

The hope for this year was that Tui would be half decent, we'd be mid table and McLelland would get a few games under his belt to really have a dig next year. Sadly Tui's a bucket of lard and McLelland isn't there yet (although he might have a chance with less pressure and a better team). We may have to make compromises for next year which mean his chances get delayed further - but he'll be 20 then and ought to be forcing his way into first team if he's ever going to make it.

Yes its a shame re mclelland. Its one of the pitfalls of relegation imo and a shining example of its failures

Mclelland is interesting to me. When I've seen U19's highlights or games on Youtube, he clearly has a lot of talent, and seems to be a really good defender, but he sits back on most plays.

I'd really like to see him demand the ball. Maybe he feels a bit above the U19s and doesn't find it challenging enough. I just feel like if I were him, I'd be trying to handle the ball at least 3 times a set and really take control of the game.

Having said that, it's from quite limited viewing. Anyone else noticed a similar pattern or am I off the mark?

It's hard for youngsters in the halves to make an impression I feel. Do the older more established players trust them? Do they listen? Does the young half have the confidence to ask for the ball often enough?

Agree with everyone above. I suspect the club is trying to work on McLelland as a linking half, rather than taking on the line all the time. I quite like what I've seen, he can defend quite well for his size and he has a strong all-round game, although lacks the pace of a young McGuire or Burrow.
Partner him with a skilful running half and we'd have a good combination going.
Wouldn't worry too much if we do change both halves for 2020 - McLelland will still be called upon to cover for injuries or form, we do need three decent halves at the club who can all do a job.
Definitely if I was Myler or Tui I'd be looking over my shoulder, looks like the writing is on the wall for both.

Still not convinced he (Lui) is the type we need or as good as some rate him but easily beltter than that disinterested unfit turn style.
I still dont see swopping Parcell for Lunt as a positive though it makes a relegation rival stronger & weakens us.
