| I am in no way a christian, infact I like many on here find many of the claims quite ridiculous. But having a quick read through this thread there is no need to be quite so sarcastic and condescending in the way you are speaking to the OP. It's gone beyond having a structured debate and basically laughing at him because he believes something different, which many others had a problem with his reason for starting the thread in the first place.

Anyone who posts the sort of stuff the OP has posted on here and the Sin Bin is richly deserving of the ridicule that comes his way. If you make outlandish, unsubstantiated claims, and are unable to back them up with logic, reason or evidence, you are leaving yourself wide open. That his outlandish claims happen to relate to religion makes not a scrap of difference.

I have nothing personal against Kirkstaller...he's just a name on a forum....but he does seem impervious and probably perfectly convinced in his own mind that every irreverent comment are the ones to be pitied for their sins. I'm sure he is totally unaffected.

| Not sure I believe in god. I believe there was a bloke called Jesus who for me would have been a David blane type character from his day.
I am a married man and personally doesn't bother me regarding gay marriage. Doesn't effect me and if they want to get married then feel free.
In my job with some of the Horable things that I see I find it really hard to believe in god.

| Quote ="nantwichexile"OMG ....not the bluddy flood myth. Where do we start with this one ?
There were three recognised periods of dinasours ......no cretaceous period dinasours existed alongside triassic or jurassic period namesakes. Are you really suggesting they [uall [/udied in one flood ? Shouldn't all fossils be at top of hills and mountains as they climbed to escape the gradually rising 'flood' ?
Even without the dinasours how on earth did the unique creatues of New Zealand, Madagascar, Australia etc get back 'home' once the ark was once more grounded ? Why did ALL the penguins only waddle back to the South pole and polar bears back to the north pole ?
How the hell did Noah round them all up from such diverse locations anyways ?
When released did the carnivores sit around chewing the fat whilst waiting for the herbivores to reproduce in significant enough sustainable numbers to start eating them again ?
I give up
'"
Noah was reported (I think in the Telegraph, or it might have been the bible) to be 600 years old at the time of the flood. So he & the 7 members of his family, all over 500 years old, built the mother of all ships with nothing but a few axes & local trees. How did 8 pensioners feed & water >30,000 animals & muck out the stalls?

That one's easy. They had a bit of help from Morgan Freeman and used the same catering company as Salford City Reds.

.....or keep koalas, capybaras and pandas properly fed ? I suppose they must have kept the carnivores happy with the odd overflying exhausted bird that fell on the ark after looking in vain for a tree to alight on. Then they must have had to fit all the flightless birds from NZ on the ark too. Why were the smilodons, mammoths, mastodons and magatheriums discriminated against ?
What about the animals that predominately live in the sea/rivers, but need land too (walruses, sealions, crocodiles etc) ? ...just keep swimming just keep swimming
How did all the vegetations around the earth survive the flood ?
Questions questions....but I guess God took care of all these anonamlies. BUT, then why go through all the whole complete pantomime and not just elevate all of the creatures he wanted to save above the flood and out of danger??
Indeed why even bother having such a circumvent 'solution' to the world's sin anyway ??

I want to like this. This is exactly how I see it.
I would like to point out again that the majority of Christians don't share any views with Kirkstaller and see the bible as guidance only.
Take, for example, the feeding of the 5000 story. I see it as a lesson in sharing. Those who have some share with those who have none.
Kirkstaller, what is your understaning of this story?

I see it as a lesson in preparation - 4999 idiots turn up at a meeting without bringing sandwiches or cake and one poor sod has to hand over his shopping that he did on the way there to feed them all.
The very least that Jesus could have done was organise a catering van, even Batley Bulldogs get a catering van in and look at their crowds, AND I'm surprised that at least one ice cream van didn't turn up, you only need to have a crowd of two or three standing around before the ice cream vans start fighting for the pitch.

Cake and the Bible...now there's some interest!
"And thou shalt eat it as barley cakes, and thou shalt bake it in their sight with dung that cometh out of man."

I agree with the preparation part, but I tend to blame the organisers rather than the guests. I've never been to a wedding where you had to bring your own cake. That just wouldn't be cricket.
Either they invited 4999 more people than they had catered for, or 4999 uninvited guests turned up, in which case they should have been turned away. Feeding them only encourages anti-social behaviour.

I view this the same was as Jesus' other miracles. This was Christ demonstrating his divinity and fulfilling the OT prophecies. I'm not poo-pooing your interpretation (in fact I consider it quite credible) but I believe this event literally happened in order to fulfil the prophecies.
