This is starting to me off.
I’m getting a bit sick of the RFU (and to be honest it’s the RFU that fund these poaching raids into the Super League not the clubs themselves) throwing a shed load of wonga at our players just to see if they can cut it playing rah-rah rugby.
What hacks me off even more is that the RFL can do fekk all about it.
We find, nurture and develop these youngsters, invest time, money and effort in them and just when they’re starting to show true potential along come the RFU with a big bag of shiny gold and whip players from right under our noses.
When these players don’t quite cut it they get returned to us a shadow of their former selves.
Why can’t they just f**k off.'"

| I asked this on another thread, but assuming Smith goes mid season, should Leeds bother picking him at all from the moment he signs? I'd suggest not.

Bad management.
Why?
Do you know what money Wasps have offered Smith? Do you know how much he has demanded to stay?
I'd imagine it would be bad management by GH to match Wasps offer.
So if Smith is going to leave anyway, why not release him early and get a transfer fee.
Let's face it, now Webb is fit, he's going back to the wing fast and we've got Donald and Hall
Bad management? Idiots!'"
a) No-one on here knows for certain whether Wasps have actually made an offer.
b) No-one on here knows how much Smith is being offered by Wasps if he is being offered anything at all.
c) No-one on here knows about the contract situation between Leeds Rhinos and Lee Smith.
All this said, anything posted on the matter is pure conjecture. This said, one person's opinion is just as valid as the next person's.
Don't try and shoot me down for airing my opinion on what I think of a hypothetical situation.

I agree the rfl should help Leeds keep smith in superleague (if the club wants to that said ) we must keep English talent in superleague at all costs. Regardless of the Leeds situation, He would be a cert for England at the end of the season. I'd rather him leave Leeds and stay in SL rather than go to union.

ATEOTD he is one player. If he wants to go, let him. No player is bigger than the club, and we shouldn't be breaking our salary policy for any player.
I would like Smith to stay as I feel that in the last season he has really played well, and is a key part of our team, but hey ho, we will lose players we want to keep along the way.
Its his choice, but I would have thought he would have spoken to his mates, ie Chev who left for RU and had to come back because it didn't work out, and his other mates, ie Scrutes who left for other teams because the grass appeared to be greener, but who cannot possibly have the satisfaction that the Leeds players have!

As I said, we must do all we can to keep English talent in Superleague. I seem to recall them doing the same with Saints a while back when cunningham and sculthorpe were getting poached by RU. But as I say Leeds must want to keep him first...

There will be other players to replace him. No way would I want the RL to come in and try and stop him from going. Its his choice. If he goes, thanks for your efforts lee, and good luck. If he stays, fair play to ya, I think you have made the right decision, and lets go and win some more trophies!

There well maybe other players to replace him, but why not have ''other players'' competing for places for England and Leeds which will only benefit us internationally. Or have I missed something and we now have a sudden abundance of international talent in the backs ?????

could someone enlighten me ...who are all these young RL nutured players that are leaving the game in droves....???
The Smith departure is pure speculation ATM. Which other young up and coming superstars have left this season...or last season for that matter.

So the RL are going to put up loads of money to keep a player to play full back who is playing centre for his team??
KR fans wax lyrical about Briscoe and the ones I have spoken to feel he would do a good job at FB for England. In our own team, Leeds are looking after BJB and from what I have seen of him, feel he could be a future full back for England. I dont know enough about other teams academy kids, but I feel there will be some good up and coming full backs out there.
It is a dangerous precedent. You di it for one, others will want it too.

I give up. Your missing the point. The RFL should help all clubs from losing English talent to union regardless of what position they play for they're clubs. Competition for places is healthy and we don't have an abundance of talent in SL that are English..

Your missing the point Emma. You are not wrong from your point, but you are missing the point.
We now have 14 teams in Super League, and we want the quality to improve considerably. There is already a lack of quality players going around to accomodate those teams, to keep a good quality level playing field. Everybody wants to reduce overseas players, this places a further burden on the need for quality british players.
Why therefore not do anything as a game to ensure good quality british players are not lost to the game?
The RFL should in some way, maybe subsidise in salary cap for homegrown academy players (discussed previosly) to help us as a game not lose quality british players from Super League.

No. Only if it's a concrete offer or there is serious chance of losing them to RU.
No. I just want to keep English talent in SL. Thats all, you know seeing as we're a tad short on English talent anyway....
