Possibly but that leaves us with McGuire/Burrow as starting halves which I do not think is something i want to look forward to.

McGuire and Burrow have held shirt numbers 6 and 7 since early 2000's regardless so that won't change.

I think it's potentially a good signing. The halfback problem will be solved by getting a decent english player in there, not by signing a second rater from the NRL. So many come over and are meh, yet quite a few sl teams have had success from picking up english halves and developing them, Look at matty smith, mark sneyd, luke gayle etc. You aren't going to sign the finished product, you need to sign someone with potential and develop them in the mould of your team. If he has pace he could make a good partner for Lilley in the future.

Only real question is if Hardaker does stay, does he keep the number 1 shirt or do we demote him and give it to Sutcliffe.

Segeyaro will take the number 9 shirt.
Ferres will take 19 (or 14 if Sutcliffe moves to 1)

Well lets put it this way Ormamroyd isn't even the best Forward at Fev let alone best in that League ala Walmsley.
Wrt Aston he is basically a "project/gamble" when we clearly need quality 1st team ready to come in it may work it may not but i'm pretty certain he's the cheap option.

I don't think anyone has legitimately compared Lilley to lewis on this forum. Pure fantasy that, possibly even paranoid delusions.

Sometimes people make comments and they are taken totally out of context.

e.g Person A - I don't think lilley has enough X to make it
Person b - Wally lewis didn't have a huge amount of X and he was pretty good.

Those type of exchanges happen all the time and often get extrapolated as ''Look! Look! OMG! he's saying Lilley will definitely be as good as wally lewis. I'm going to troll about it for the next decade now''.

If someone says Sutcliffe is too big to be a 6, I could point out that Brad Fittler was around the same size, without 'comparing' them in the way you mean.

Last time Sheffield were going bust Hetherington did another mutually agreeable deal - that brought us Keith Senior so we couldn't complain once he settled in. The inflated fee didn't save Sheffield, the original version, on that occassion though.

Must be horrible for GH though, he literally founded the club off his own back and he's had to watch them go bust twice in 20 years since he left.

I agree, the best thing for Lilley would be a year on loan in the championship, despite Garry Schofield calling for him to be picked for England at number 7.

He definitely needs to be playing ever week. He may be better at a super league club force year though rather than Fev, as I think he is already too good for that level. I would not be surprised if Aston was loaned back to Sheffield for first year but train full time at Leeds ala what we did with hardaker

Lilley would find it a bit easier playing behind a pack on the front foot rather than one that was getting battered from pillar to post for a lot of last year. He coped pretty well in the circumstances, i think we need to keep him around the squad, he should get a fair amount of game time for us.
