Would agree with Smokey not Sinfield for those reasons and TBH, he has said he doesnt want to coach and has just started a top role within the RFL forget him.

Its a tough one. We do need to get someone in who is going to reshape the whole thing so it has to be the right man so it may take a little while to sort but we have to get that man in by summer so he can identify his targets for next year and make the adjustments for the rest of this or else next season will become a write off too.

Not an easy task but i don't subscribe to sticking to a coach who is failing just because it appears there is no obvious candidate to replace him.

Send a message to the players and fans by putting a caretaker in charge until a qualified candidate becomes available?

Agree not Sinfield. A seasoned NRL assistant is probably the best option (not McNamara please).

I can see your point Smokey & it's very valid but i remember many thinking the same when Powell took over yet he cleared out plenty of his CC winning team mates for fresh arrivals & the best youngsters we had at the time.
I do however think its a non starter purely because Sinny himself has dismissed a Coaching role when he retired.
Imo id go for one of Dunneman Cleary Furner Morgan or Arthur or even a couple of the aforementioned.
I would however like to see JP back as a director of RL so GH can take a step back.

JP has an innate need to put struggling team on his back and carry them. It's an enviable trait for a player. Possibly not suited to a DoR whose job is to sit back.and let others lead. Maybe I'm wrong cos I'd love JP back in any capacity.

I agree with your second part, but not entirely first one. It certainly has to be the right coach as you say. But waiting just makes the situation worse. We are better off with no coach until the right one is appointed.

I'd go for Toovey. He is already here and clearly has appetite or he would not have gone to the mess that is Bradford. Offer them £100k compensation, get it done.

Its actually not a dumb point. McDermott does currently have some credibility - he's won more than any other coach around. Just like a number of players his credit will be falling fairly fast though.

He cashed in his "credit" last year imo & we are still seeing the same dross.

This for me.

That doesn't mean i don't appreciate the success he has brought to the club during his time, but nothing lasts for ever and 6 and a half years as head coach at Leeds is more time than any coach has had at the club in my 30 plus years of watching.

And given his trophy record, I think the stick Brian Mc gets is well harsh.

I can understand with those posters who think McDernott should go but thank him for his efforts. Those that talk about him like something they stepped in and put his achievements down to luck are very poor and astill bitter about being proven wrong.

I agree re the bitterness, and also the almost complete unwillingness to admit that BM's record as coach might - shock, horror - be partly down to him. Mind you, I never understood the determination some have to suggest that 2003 era Daryl Powell was some kind of uber coach and Tony Smith just inherited his legacy.

Sadly I think BM will leave under a horrendous cloud and will struggle for years to get any credit from a lot of fans. However, in part that's down to him - he deserves more praise for what we won under his tenure, but equally must be held accountable for the shambles fo the last year or so.

No doubts at all Mcdermott deserves credit & gratitude fof his achievements but it can't be over-looked or ignored that he's hit the wall & clearly isn't the Coach to see us through this transition.
The pros & cons debate are just an extension of his overall time here.
It can't also be ignored the input Sinfield/JP had because it's there for all to see.

To prove everyone wrong McDermott needs to go elsewhere and achieve success that way nobody can argue his abilities - to me all he has proved he was the right person in the right place at the right time!!

Whilst I agree in the main with what you are saying Mark.
I still think that this squad especially in the halves is not good enough to win a GF whoever the coach is.
McGuire like last year is no longer good enough, Burrow is ok as long as we have a decent 6 like a Luke Gale type of player.
Sutcliffe for me is not a 6 and Lilley whilst I have hopes for cannot do it alone see Burrow for the same comparisson.
The forwards are lightweight and Briscoe, Hall and Watkins have gone backwards.
Now I am sure a good coach could sort the backs out but the depth for me in this squad is not there even with a decent coach imo.
