I've heard thats the case as well.
I do know that you often get nothing if you won't pay for it, so I assume it works the other way too.
Some of the best food I've tasted has been cheap food BTW

I'd agree with that to a point. You can get some to drawer curries at the cheapest establishments and the same goes for other cuisines too. I don't eat at posh places enough to know much about them but mid-range stuff can often be a dissapointment - all pre-cooked and reheated crap.
I'd also say cheap food is by far the best in terms of what you cook yourself. Especially with meat - though I'm thinking more of the cheaper cuts rather than the cheapest butchers.

| Its only a curry if it has fruit in it.
I'm having one tonight and adding my own fruit.

| I have to admit that if we're having a cheap curry out of a jar I invariably have a sliced banana with it.

My initial response to this wasn't a good one, but having had a few minutes to consider it I might give it a try.
Which curry out of jar would you recommend? Would imagine a stronger one may not compliment the banana as much?

| You'll find Thai and Malay curries use a lot of fruit, particularly pineapple and plantain, if you've never tried fruit in a chilli and coconut based sauce then you've never lived ...

Not sure what makes we've had but it is generally the milder curries so the kids will eat them too.
Think of it like a condiment rather than an ingredient - I tend to have that as well as some raita, some chilli sauce and just have a bit in the same way as you might have a pickle or chutney.

| Can I recommend [url=http://www.lagrillade.co.uk/La Grillade[/url just off Wellington Street?
French grub but specialises in steaks. Unpretentious, friendly service. Can't knock it. I even saw Alan Bennett in there the last time I was in.

Same with Sri Lankan curries, Anglo-Indian curries (sultanas & apple) and even some Persian dishes (where rice for example will be 'jewelled' with pistachios, sultanas and pomegranate).
A fruit curry will form part of our Christmas dinner

| Also, you could try the Corner cafe on Kirkstall Road for Curries. Been there years.
Actually owned and operated by a whitey who lived in Indian for a long time.
Fantastic food and really bohemian atmosphere. Not licensed but you can get a pint from the Queens and bring it in.

Honestly didn't know that place was still going. I used to love the fact I could buy a pint of hand pulled Tetleys to have with my curry.
Mind you, we in the Temperance movement now favour the unlicensed premises. Especially for curry houses - if they close at 11pm and are unlicensed you know the food must be good.

One of our Christmas trips from work is going to be to unlicensed premises, specifically Jino's in Headingley.
Any reviews from the ss.com cogniscenti?

Yes, yes and yes again. You're on to a winner there.
Not that I've been but....I have been twice to the sister restaurant/cafe in Guiseley and its without doubt the best Thai restaurant I've been to. People are really friendly, waitresses fit as fook and the food absolutely wonderful - especially if you agree to have it Thai style. Last time I had tom yam soup Thai style and then similar for a papaya salad that had me crying with pain and pleasure.

We used to go to its predecessor at the bottom of Scott Hall Road, years and years ago.
We could both eat far too much for under a fiver in total.
That was vital factor back then.
You could take beer in from the Skinner's Arms just over the street.
