| I don't think Harris would fit in this Leeds squad and I wouldn't have him (he was already turning into "the crab" by the end of '99). Barrie Mac and Mozza are the only two I'd definately go with (obviously Barrie was in the 2004 squad so we know he fits well with the core of players we have). Pre NRL Morely would be tremendous in our back row - swap for Kirke? Yes please.
Godden, maybe at 3? But again, Delaney has shown he has the potential to be a Godden-esque signing. So not so keen to replace him. The only other player might be Powell for his versatility and just plain toughness.

He put 3 tries and a Lance Todd on a plate for Leroy Rivett whilst playing one one leg.

He also left him isolated in the semi and final the following year.

Agree with this and always thought that if Leroy had not scored 5, that Blackmore would have been my choice for the Lance Todd.

It registered but I rose above it.
TBH, If Harris is to be considered it would have to be at full back. That was where his greatest rugby was played for us, not at stand off after he made the full time move in 2000.
And if you're in the Harris for 6 camp (which I am not) it's a bit of a kop out to move McGuire to 7 to accommodate him.
Anyway, from the 1999 team I would put the following into the current team.
Harris at FB for Webb.
Godden for Delaney
Morley into the 2nd row.

Harris played all of '97 for Leeds (after his early season signing) as the starting stand off. The Murray ploy, I always thought, was designed to prevent him from being targetted in defence to keep him fresh for late in the games but ball in hand he was still pretty heavily involved.

Having Harris at full-back also meant that the leadership of Darryl Powell wasn't lost to the side.
Had Harris played at 6, realistically the Douglas Bader impressionist wasn't going to get in the side in any other position.

I agree with the reason for playing him at full back and I agree he was still heavily involved from full back (pretty much like Webb is now). Nevertheless full back is where he played in his two greatest season's at Leeds, 98 & 99.

Used to really enjoy watching Jacko play. An Excellent hooker.

Jacko was great to watch when in posession but he was weak defensively imo and Diskin has had a lot better impact both in attack and defence than Jacko had imo.

I don't think he was weak defensively. He certainly would not have a had a good career in the NRL if he was. Perhaps his team mates at that time were not as good defensively as we would have liked.
I would certainly have liked to have see him in this successful period, at a time we were getting good quick play the balls with excellent supporting rugby.

Fair point but i seem to remember too many "andy hay" efforts in defence from him and like i said you have a fair point re-his NRL stint but that has nothing to do with his Leeds career imo which is the point i'm making.

I'd agree with Newton, Glanville, Morley and Godden, the rest wouldn't add a great deal. For example, as good as Blackmore was, he wouldn't be an improvement on Senior. One name I haven't seen is that of Massella, I'm pretty certain he was still there in '99 and I always rated him.

The incumbent is more succesful, but he had a better starting point and (from this thread's reaction) has better players - tough call?

I'll always have a soft spot for Murray and cherish the memories of watching his leeds team but i wouldn't swap him for Bluey who has won back to back titles for us.
Whilst it is arguable about having better players available i do think it's clear cut that he's coaching in a much tougher SL than Murray did.
