When we went to Corfu it wasn't great - I broke a couple of toes on the second day then it was constant torrential rain for the next 5 days anyway. Brother swears by the place though, so one day we'd like to go back.

I tried to get a vegetarian moussaka from Marksies today - had one last week and it was really nice but they seem to have stopped doing it. I had a veggie lasagne instead and it was sh[iit[/ie.

Think you would really like Ag G. We have been there four times now and class some of the business/apartment owners as friends now. We always recieve a warm welcome, and the village is beautiful. The beach aint bad either!

Its nice to get a car and go round the island. We went up north into Gerald Durrell territory.......we have found a nice beach that we go to every year, and we went south to the lake, and enjoyed passing through a number of traditional villages on the way. It made Danny's holiday as we stopped at a traditional taverna for lunch, (so traditional there was no menu!) and Danny had lamb cooked in a stone pot).

Last year we hired a car and did the fishing villages in the south.

We dont go anywhere near Kavos as it doesn't interest us at all, but prefer to see the 'real' Corfu.

That does sound good.

Its nice to get about. Last year with Kos we decided on the way from the airport that we'd not bother with a car - it wasn't particularly scenic and there seemed few things to see/do. With Kefalonia and Kos it was really nice to drive out and stop wherever you wanted. Near Fiskardo we stopped at a taverna where the only English on the menu read 'goat in oven' and it was lovely.

We were not impressed by Kos. We stayed in what was meant to be the most traditional Greek village on the island, and I kid you not, it had an Elvis impersonator, a 'Golden Lion' pub and a 'better than Asda' shop.
It was cheap enough but we were not particulary impressed. I think we have been spoilt with Kef and Corfu!

It had the sun, the sea was nice and in the day time Kos Town was nice enough but beyond that it was like Blackpool with sun.

Yeah, we liked Kos town. TBH though I cannot even remember where we went in the car when we hired it.
We are looking at doing a week on the mainland next year, possibly around Parga/Sivota. Have you been?

Nope, not been to the mainland but looked at somewhere - can't remember where - but it was in the east where there were 3 peninsulas, it was all forested and there were no big towns for a long way.

You're all amateurs, when I went to Corfu 29 years ago you could only get to Kos by boat.

Is that cos the Kos people didn't trust you on a plane?

Our plane caught fire just before it landed at Corfu airport that year (true story), never seen a pilot put a plane down quicker than that, nor seen four stewardesses move as fast ...

I had a well nice XL kebab tonight, had a Chinese as well 'cos I was feeling extra hungry. I blame the wine / lager we had, but still, it was worth it.
