| I hope there's a strike.
There were strikes in 1982 and 1987. The Superbowl Champs in those years were..............The Washington Redskins.
Strike, strike, strike, strike

| Strike season in 1987 worked out ok for a certain Sean Payton, who otherwise might never have got a shot at playing in the NFL.

| If you've ever seen "the replacements" with Gene Hackman and Keanu Reeves it is loosely based upon the 1987 Redskins.
The Redskins replacements beating the strike-breaking Cowboys featuring most of their stars back in the final week of the strike was a real highlight.

| Andre Carter and Derrick Dockery have already been released. Carter is a great player but as a 4-3 end and doesn't fit the 3-4 at all. Dock is a good guard but doesn't fit Shannahan's zone blocking scheme.
Also, saves a lot of cap money and gets us younger. Shannahan is, rightly, blowing the whole thing up and starting again.
Of the big names you will likely see Haynesworth and Mcnabb go (but not until after the draft as we will try and get picks for them). Will be sad to see the McNabb move fail to glad to be rid of Haynesworthless. Also, unless Carlos Rogers drops his salary demands he will be gone.
As to who will come in, I've no idea. We've looked closely at Otogwe and I reckon we will get him. Will have to wait and see who is cut or hits the market when the CBA is sorted. We have loads of needs. Assuming Otogwe signs we need help at guard, nose tackle, outside linebacker, wide receiver. I don't think we will address the QB position this year (other than a late round "project"icon_wink.gif, I reckon Grossman will play and we will look at QB in the 2012 draft.

Do you think Dan Snyder will be getting his chequebook out and spending heavily on FA signing this season ?

| I suspect we will be heavily involved in signing free agents because we have too many holes to fill just through the draft but I hope it will be younger, cheaper free agents that we sign compared to days gone by when we signed big name flashy guys looking for the big pay day.
I doubt we will be offering any more Haynesworth-esque contracts. Snyder might be very, very wealthy but even he might baulk at giving anyone that kind of money in future given the mess that Haynesworthless caused.
BTW, don't just think Hayneswrothless caused a mess just for us. He's being help up by the owners as an excuse to try and get out of giving "guaranteed" money in contracts under the new CBA (along with the likes of JaMarcus Russell). He's done a lot of damage to all players that might become free agents.

| A 24 hour extension has been negotiated for the labour talks according to my CBS news app. Hopefully the extra time is enough to get something sorted.

We got him. Him and Landry give us a quality defensive backfield.

| strike is on as per this email
Dear NFL Fan,
When I wrote to you last on behalf of the NFL, we promised you that we would work tirelessly to find a collectively bargained solution to our differences with the players' union. Subsequent to that letter to you, we agreed that the fastest way to a fair agreement was for everyone to work together through a mediation process. For the last three weeks I have personally attended every session of mediation, which is a process our clubs sincerely believe in.
Unfortunately, I have to tell you that earlier today the players' union walked away from mediation and collective bargaining and has initiated litigation against the clubs. In an effort to get a fair agreement now, our clubs offered a deal today that was, among other things, designed to have no adverse financial impact on veteran players in the early years, and would have met the players’ financial demands in the latter years of the agreement.
The proposal we made included an offer to narrow the player compensation gap that existed in the negotiations by splitting the difference; guarantee a reallocation of savings from first-round rookies to veterans and retirees without negatively affecting compensation for rounds 2-7; no compensation reduction for veterans; implement new year-round health and safety rules; retain the current 16-4 season format for at least two years with any subsequent changes subject to the approval of the league and union; and establish a new legacy fund for retired players ($82 million contributed by the owners over the next two years).
It was a deal that offered compromise, and would have ensured the well-being of our players and guaranteed the long-term future for the fans of the great game we all love so much. It was a deal where everyone would prosper.
We remain committed to collective bargaining and the federal mediation process until an agreement is reached, and call on the union to return to negotiations immediately. NFL players, clubs, and fans want an agreement. The only place it can be reached is at the bargaining table.
While we are disappointed with the union's actions, we remain steadfastly committed to reaching an agreement that serves the best interest of NFL players, clubs and fans, and thank you for your continued support of our League. First and foremost it is your passion for the game that drives us all, and we will not lose sight of this as we continue to work for a deal that works for everyone.
Yours,
Roger Goodell

Good to see the NFLPA behaving like grown-ups and not using their most high profile players to drag the league through the courts.

The same Gene Upshaw that also de-certified the players union to enable to them to take anti-trust action, and the same Gene Upshaw that also took the players out on strike?
