| I just don’t get how they could get something like this so wrong when it is really simple to do.
Forget the bizarre reason (130 years, eh?) the club has fortunately got a very strong recognisable traditional kit design (like saints red V Wigan cherry hoops) so anything heritage should be easy to do Who signed it off and thought, yes that’s representitive of our history?
Bizarre.

Modern with all the current sponsors, heritage with the old crest and the names of all the players to have ever played first team woven in the fabric around the bottom section and retro with the old style collar
Granted 130 years isn’t a number to celebrate like it would have been if 100 or 150 and it’s obviously been brought out to try and bring in some extra cash, which normally I’m dead against with the number of shirts brought out each year recently, but I kind of get it in the current climate and so am not as critical as I’d normally be.
Each to their own I suppose. Every one on here so far hates it, but I don’t mind it'"
I don’t particularly dislike the shirt it’s the fact that it isn’t well designed for what it’s meant to be that is bizarre, just put irregular hoops where the lines are and at least it’s representitive of our actual heritage

| It's 150 years since Leeds St Johns was founded, 1870 being the date the club had taken to putting as the establishment year on the vintage range - except for this shirt where they have gone back to the, wholly inaccurate, "est'd 1895" marker.
So there is a totally legitimate, club-supported 150th anniversary this year but they've chosen instead to celebrate the ground's 130th? Headingley is unique and important to both Leeds and the sport but it just seems totally random to choose this when there was an easier thing to select instead.
A genuine heritage design would not have been hard either. The club played in purely white at some stage, which could have produced a nice shirt.

It’s a very good point about the 150th anniversary
If you look at how Leeds United celebrated their anniversary, we could have really gone to town and celebrated this historic moment

Yep the established 1895 frustrated me too. Simply because it’s wrong.
Nothing wrong with celebrating 130 years of Headingley but maybe produce a dvd/downloadable video of a documentary on the ground. I’d buy that.
Or even the shirt done properly. It just seems all so disjointed.

To be honest, if they had announced this as our shirt for next season I would have been fine with that. It's modern in design and material. Ok you not have had the names and the old badge but it would be a decent 2021 shirt.
It just doesn't do it as a heritage shirt, but each to their own for sure.
I suspect they will be in the sale pretty soon so at least you will grab a bargain

Making cash is fine with me but choosing an obscure date instead of the 150th anniversary of the foundation club and the laziness/sloppiness of the design is just poor commercial decision making - and I think that probably ends up ultimately at Rob Oates' door.
I know you can't have blue and amber irregular hoops every shirt, but a club truly in tune with its fanbase and its history would know what works and what doesn't. And wouldn't try and create a heritage event whilst forgetting about a genuine anniversary and simultaneously trying to shift a heritage shirt which has no element of heritage to it. Give half the people on this messageboard ten minutes to sensibly feed back opinion on any of the above and they'd get a better steer of what would work than seems to have been the case here.

Spot on.
I’ve absolutely no issue with not using traditional designs for kits every year, but on a heritage shirt it has to be a must surely?
The irony is it would have probably been a big seller if done properly, im not sure who thought a parramatta shirt was representitive of our history

Oh I agree there's no reason not to have them every year but I can see why they might want to go away from tradition now and then, didn't wigan have a policy of 2 years traditional with one year non traditional, I don't have a massive issue with that.
On a heritage short however...

| I have no problem with the club trying to generate some much needed cash at this financially difficult time. But if they want us to part with a substantial lump of cash, when many are already feeling the pinch, the product needs to be very good. To me this offering isn't, simple as.
P.S. I wish they'd give the shirt design job to Christopher

I'd imagine (hope) that Leeds had already got plans to have a traditional type shirt next year to honour the 60th anniversary of the first Championship win which means they wouldn't want to duplicate it with this heritage shirt, but why not use a quartered design which I believe was the original shirt design and the one we used as the centenary shirt in 1995 IIRC.

Unless the one I have been shown is not what they have gone with, it isn't traditional. Its very nice actually, although see how it looks with the real thing.
