rhinoms, what game were you watching last night if you don't think enthuisiasm and hunger was lacking?'"
It was a flat performance no doubts but how many repeat sets did we defend in our own 20??
i think the way the team defended in terms of effort can't be questioned because without hunger or effort we'd of shipped in 70+ last night.
We were very poor ball in hand i won't deny that either but that doesn't equate to a lack of hunger or enthusiasm imo.
i'd say composure was one of the biggest things we lacked especially ball in hand and the team were that fatigued it back-fired in the 2nd half.

| Quote ="Matt23"Not a great day at the office for us last night, here are some of my thoughts on the game.
The only player to come out of the game with any credit for us IMO was Bailey. He hit hard and carried us forward well.
The rest of the side had their worst games of the 2nd half of the season so far. Ryan Hall had his first bad game in about 2 years so we'll let him off for that. McGuire and Sinfield looked like 2 strangers who'd just wandered onto the field.
There was a worrying lack of structure in everything we did, I suppose we can blame some of that on the injuries with new people stepping in, but we rarely got any dummy runners, it was more a case of give it to someone and hope for a miracle. A Greg Eastwood or a Lauitiiti running some angles abit wider would certainly have helped.
Very worried by McShane's defence at the moment, you take for granted a Diskin or Buderus who not only put the tackles in but prevent the offload. This is the 2nd week in a row we've looked vulnerable up the middle when McShane's been on. Hopefully it's just a case of him adapting to the physicallity of SL, because going forward he certainly has alot of potential. The forward passes I can put down to the team struggling to adapt to a new style of dummy half play.
We came up against a very fired up Hull KR side who kicked superbly and really put us under pressure. I think they're lacking some 'X-factor' that will prevent them advancing far in the playoffs, but we certainly don't want to end up going to Craven Park come September.'"

Matt, whilst i agree with the sentiment of the post which was pretty much seconded with Sinfield's Interview post match, i have to disagree with the two points made above.
I think Bailey has played pretty well this season but to me the love in is going a bit far. Bailey was nowhere near the only player with any credit from Friday's game. If you ask me he was non-existent and appeared to be off the pitch for long periods. Completely disagree. Nothing against Bailey in general just Friday was not that good.
As for Hall, re-watch the game. I thought he was outstanding. The obvious thing that people are basing their judgements on were the two bombed tries. There is no explantion for that but i strongly doubt it would have made any difference. if you look at his all round play prior to those two mistakes i thought he was excellent.
Friday was just one of those games, players missing and totally outplayed by a side that had the game of their season. The problem with KR is they will lose next week (not sure who they are playing), as they are inconsistent.
Leeds will still make the top 4 easily, as Hull are the same.

| AL I take your points and accept your opinions. Hall's general play was very good as it has been for the last season and a half now, however I cannot say that he had a good game when he bombed 2 tries. The lad puts his body on the line for this club week in week out and has regularly played injured (Wire away 2 weeks ago). I'll forgive him a couple of bombed tries especially as he took us forward well but I cannot say that in my opinion it was one of his better games.
As for Bailey I have been a critic in the past, G1 will have you believe that Bailey has always played to the standard he is now seeting over the last few weeks, whereas IMO he's really stepped his game up a level this season, and is turning into the forward I thought he'd be following his academy career.

I agree Ambler is looking better and better....certainly deserves to retain his place on the bench (at least) regardless of who might return from injury. Bailey has always been inconsistent and am not convinced he would walk into any England/GB side...but he is an important part of the Rhinos and credit due from a critic, he has impressed recently. Leulai though will be a great return back into the starting line up. Buderus would be even better
Hall rightly held up his hand for the first "bombed" try; am not sure he can be blamed much for the second, when he was in danger from Fox's attempt at decapitation. Altogether however he and Donald are looking the least of our problems at the moment.

Sort of.
We have enough young players with talent to rebuild from within to some degree. Watkins, BJB, Pitts, Ambler, Clarkson, could all find themselves getting more and more game time. I think it would be prudent to seriously start looking at how we replace Senior, Peacock, Ali, Donald and a few other vets in the side.
Next year would be the time to do it. Next year we could look to recruit a couple of quality quota players for 2012, and maybe splash some cash on a couple of good domestic signings - again for 2012. We tend to assume these days that British players don't move from one big club to another, but if the inducement and the timing is right then you can recruit the likes of Peacock.
But then again I don't have a crystal ball, so it's just a guess.

| Haven't seen the KR game yet, but as far as defence goes it was generally woeful the week before vs Sts. Even without two halfbacks they were regularly making 50 yards plus in a set with forward drives and dummy-half scoots. Leeds never looked remotely like controlling the PTB.
This is another result which again suggests to me that Leeds are generally 'up' for some games and less so for others. It may get us a CC but unless we add some steel in defence and start to play more consistently I can't see us challenging for the Championship at the end of the year.

| This team should have been wiped at the end of last year. if this team wins anything this year then they are counted as lucky. Trying to carry this side over to next year is laughable at best and anyone who supports this recruitment policy is a complete fool.
This team will struggle to win anything this year never mind next year.
Step forward you puddings!

We are a year behind IMO, we should have been doing this for next year, not the year after.
It doesn't take a crystal ball, you only have to take off the tinted specs and smell the coffee to see a lot of these senior players are done.
Re-signing Senior, Donald, and Ali for next year was poor management IMO.

It's certainly a valid point of view, but I'm prepared to adopt a wait and see policy on this. A lot of people (myself included at times) thought Keith was done a couple of seasons ago, but he has proved otherwise. Hopefully, he and others can continue to do so.

It's only natural that the senior players will start slowing down at some point but to go from winning four titles in a row to not making the top six the next season is harsh.

How? we will be lucky to get 5th this year in the league. So why would it be harsh to drop a couple of spots next year?
I thought you were on the badwagon that these players had 3 or 4 years yet anyway?
