We may be imprisioned. Not will be, it'll be the driver at fault for letting passengers drink.

But still, have you seen a coach/train heading to a sporting event stopped because of alcohol being consume on it? I certainly haven't and mates, family and proprietors of coach companies that have never been stopped or heard of anyone been stopped for the above. Yes its the law but it isn't policed as much compared to some laws.

Not being a lawyer, shouldn't it depend on what is a 'designated' sporting event ?

I would think something like the 'old firm' game this weekend would be a 'designated' event, where trouble is a possibility, whereas the Grand Final and the reputation of the game's supporters in general means that the police have little to worry about when RL fans are in town ?

When I still qualified for one of their fests I found it much more pleasant to stay in nearby better quality hotels, that way you could still join in the night time frivolities but maintain a standard of living that they could only dream of in their no-star hovels that they were paying five star prices for

I've been on coaches that have been stopped en-route to football grounds for booze checks so yes, it does happen. These weren't exactly major events either - MBoro v Leeds IIRC
