Yeah that’s pretty much game over for him you would think. Heck of a risk to recruit given his record.

Could see him ending up at Toronto if they come up for example but no chance of NRL deal now.

Yes he will Sal IF he fancies making the move over there
I'm a very big fan of this kid and I think that he will be sensational in the NRL
If I could sign any British player who is currently in SL for 2020 for the Rhinos I would choose Thompson without a doubt every time

Yep he would kill it in NRL.almost 80 minute barnstorming prop is gold now with the interchange system as it is.
I have confidence many brit forwards would go well over there. Who would have thought Hodgson would be classed as a consistently top 3 NRL hooker when he left for example when he wasn't even close to top 3 in SL?
No doubt their backs are miles ahead of ours but in the forwards we are not far away.

| I’m sticking my neck out and saying top half of the table for us next year. And our U18s to win.
I just think we are a better looking squad than the one which started 2019 and there’s plenty of improvement in the younger ones.

| Leeds will finish top 5 next season - the standard in SL isn't that strong - Saints apart who are as good a team as we have seen in the SL era.

Sticking the neck out? Surely top half is minimum expectation. Should really be aiming for top 4. Only Saints- miles ahead and Wigan with new signings and will improve will have the top two nailed down and maybe Wire will be there abouts too but the rest of the teams i expect will be similar to this year. Really should be a play off spot with the moves we have made and potential to make.

| They can spend as big as they like, they still have a salary cap to work with. Seeing what McDermott left us with, one year is SL and they will be relegated. His comments last night after the game did nothing to enhance SL. His talk of big city clubs in SL at the expense of small town clubs such as Salford , he quoted Salford , he suggested teams from other European cities to join SL, seems he wants a European league with the addition of Toronto and New York etc, looks like the small town clubs of Wigan, Saints and Warrington have no chance going forward.
McDermott he’s simply thinks he is bigger than the game itself, a guy with a massive chip on his shoulder.

If there is an official club trip I expect the prices will be extortionate.
Anyone wanting to go should get on a skyscanner type site and book a flight as soon as the fixtures are out. There are masses of accommodation options, flights are limited.

McDermott left us with 4 Super League titles from his reign, yes it all went wrong at the end, but he coached Leeds for 8 years, the majority of which were very successful, to write him off as a coach is ludicrous.

| I exoect Toronto to bring a few superstar names. The issue they will have with the cap is they wont be able to balance it out with a few kids coming through cos they obviously dont have any.
Be interesting to see their fixtures next year.
They need to be embraced. The potential they have is enormous. If they can survive and bring a TV deal, sponsorship and investment to the sport it could be massive for RL but only time will tell.
Please dont reignite this McDermott nonsense AGAIN!!!! Cant we just move on?

I don’t know how you got that from what he said or how you’ve come to the conclusion that he thinks he’s bigger than the game or has a chip on his shoulder?
That’s a bizarre conclusion from his comments.

He gave honest opinions in the piece I heard. Can't blame him for failing to find too many positives about SL right now, most fans - expansionist or not - struggle and I suspect McD knows a good bit more than them about the game's current state than they do. Not saying he's right but he's definitely entitled to speak his mind IMO.

| For me if Toronto aren't getting the cap money they should be able to spend what they want - either give them the money or let them do what they want with their squad. It is about time SL started moving aspirations upwards and not being limited by smaller clubs that need the cap money to finance other parts of their business because they can't generate sufficient revenues.

| True.
Its time for a bit of a hard nosed approach wrt some teams not pulling their own weight.
Were levelling downwards and not upwards.
If it takes Toronto to show what can be achieved with a fat wallet and ambition then so be it, the more noses they put out of joint / shame into action the better.

| We're talking about a fundamental split here, between a Super League containing well-funded, City-based sides, and a Championship for the more traditional town-based clubs.
If there were sides across Europe ready to pay £5-10m per year on their playing squads, you'd have a competition similar to the NRL in theory.
Problem is you have no infrastructure. It takes many years of youth development to self-perpetuate a club. The best way to increase the quality of the competition most people criticize the SL for, is to improve the supply of quality players.
I get where Brian Mac is coming from (and he would say that, wouldn't he?), but it will be difficult to achieve this big-City template even if the game did have a unified vision for it, which it doesn't.

There might be growth opportunities in some places - we have historical class issues to overcome in the UK, plus a much better funded RU to contend with and a national obsession with football.
However, it’s too easy to run off to the side when actually what you need to do is overcome the hurdle in front of you.
