Of course he'll be replaced. I accept it's extremely unlikely we'll see a player with his qualities again in our lifetimes but he will be replaced (assuming McDermott doesn't decide to play a man short - not entirely out of the question

Yes I agree Sinfield and the group you have just mentioned must have a permanent tribute on view a statue and not paid for by ans donations either ,paid for by the club.this retiring of numbers no who will notice in 30 40 years that Leeds don't have a 13 and why.NYYs will be into treble figures way they are going on

Rhimos, I was not meaning to be disrespectful in any way to the BEST skipper this club has ever had, We do though need to move on as a club. Retiring the shirt, for instance, sends out the wrong message in my humble opinion. We should be very proud and yes we do 'need to talk about Kevin' but come February it has to be about the here and now.

Certainly had the 13 shirt up to 1999, having taken over from Iestyn Harris who wore it in 1997. Prior to that, it might have been Mike Forshaw I think?

Hey, in researching that I had to consider whether it might have been Marcus Vassilakopoulos - notable only for managing to get himself sent off in the Charity Shield.

And, if rumours are to be believed (and not doubt Gotcha can confirm as he will have likely discussed it with him) it was a calculated act due to being severely hungover.

The best thing I can remember about Marcus Vas was that there was a woman who used to phone in to radio Leeds (or it might have been Radio Rhino or whatever it was called) after every game singing his praises - me and my old man used to have a good chuckle at her expense every week.... She didn't sound like a young lass, we thought it must have been his Mum or a family member..... 'They need to give Marcus Vas more opportunity if they wanna win owt' was her general tone....

Jeez we had some desperate times before this generation of players.... That's something anyone who only started supporting Leeds during the glory years won't understand.... There was a time when Phil Hassan was one of our 'strike' players.... Where the Gibbons twins and Marvin Golden were regulars.... Where Karl Hall was a big signing...

Maybe taking over a certain shirt number might inspire a player. Would Cuthbertson have had such a great MOS nominated year if he wasn't following in the footsteps of the legend of the 17 shirt Ian Kirke. If he can take that number over he can take Sinfield's number over

Formed a fearsome front row rotation with Steve Molloy and Neil Harmon.

Most effort I ever saw Molloy put in was chasing St John Ellis up the tunnel after both were sent off.

It was very odd how the 'feared Wire props' became hopeless puddings at Leeds. Although their drop in form pales besides the amazing decline in most Widnes players at Leeds - Eyres, Faimalo and John Basnett spring to mind.

You could add to those,a dreadfull stint by A Gregory and Andy Goodway.A couple of years wasted there.

I asked GH this very thing about a month ago. He said the club wouldn't do it because it's a motivation to the others to step up. There's a longer term plan to pay respect to the golden generation

Given neither JJB nor Stevie Ward will play against New Zealand, might be nice of the club to allow Morley and Lauitiiti to wear the 11 and 14 jerseys for the New Zealand game.

Definitely dont need to retire the jersey but a statue of them all would be appropriate I think.
