| Quote ="Charlieboo"Well, from a personal point of view, I have only been supporting Leeds for 4 years (I'm still somewhat of a newbie) and I really dislike Hull FC matches, either away or at home. The first FC match I went to, my other half and I were witness to a lot of abuse from opposition fans (these weren't chavs either, they were at least 50, and both men and women) and it made for quite an unpleasant match.
You definately notice the amount of police at Hull FC matches at home. It's far more than any other team. My cousins and sister quite often come to the rugby with us, but I won't take them when it's Hull. I don't like the atmosphere.
We were at Hull for the challenge cup (my first visit to the KC) and from what I could gather there were issues from both sides. From what I could see more Hull fans got involved than Leeds fans though. Idiots like that need booting out of matches. I don't want them in rugby league. Any of those bottles could have hit young children and there's just no need. Both Leeds and Hull FC have a responsibility to stop this behaviour at BOTH home and away matches. The stewards at Hull were far from brilliant but I'm not convinced that the one's at Leeds would have been any better. It's given both clubs a bad press, being all over the papers. We don't need that sort of reputation. Let's hope the RFL steps up and sorts it out.'"
Well, I have to say I'm sorry you feel that way about coming to Hull FC games, I really am.
There are pubs around the KC stadium which are full of fans, from both clubs before the games and there is next too no trouble. Hull FC fans, imo are generally a good bunch with a few bad apples here and there.
I would have to say I do wonder if you were born in Hull and an FC fan (try not to feel ill ) that tavelled to Headingley on a Friday night if you might feel that same about that ground - that is an intense atmosphere (as is quite common with terraced grounds), and you do get the odd idiot there (I know I have been witness to more than one), and lets be honest, the South Stand lot know how to put a inflamatory song together!
But, you feel what you feel. I just hope that you keep coming, and over time you'll have positive experiences that change your mind.

I take it your a new fan? I don't mean any disrespect by that, but Hull FC did use to have what I would call "serious" problems, especially in the 80's and early 90's and too a point up until the goal posts incident at our game.
But, apart from the odd incident we've seen nothing like that in recent years. We just have the same problems with drunk idiots as the rest of the clubs, and again thats proven by the incidents involving the Leeds fans last Saturday. Go into a town Centre on a Saturday night anywhere in the country, its not just our problem.
Hull introduced all sorts of incitives including away supporter liason officers etc, and you have to say are largely very family friendly.'"
I am sorry, but IMO this is wrong. The first thing that I want to say is that I know it is a very small minority of Hull fans who cause the problems, BUT
the year after the semi, when Hull were advertising the liaison officers etc, I went to the Boulevard, (the last time I went). I believe it was a CC match, (Karl Pratt made a last minute tackle to take Chris Smith into touch to save the match for us?)
Anyway, on arriving we were greeted by the liaison officers, and walked into one of the bars, where a couple of lovely Hull fans gave up their seats for us to allow us to sit down, and made us feel really welcome.
We went to stand and watch the match, surrounded by Leeds fans and a 'few' Hull fans.
At the end of the match on leaving the ground, our 'group' and by this I mean my mum, dad, younger brother and myself, were spat at and verbally abused. Not by 'kids' or 'chavs', but by middle aged/older men in flat caps, simply because of the colours we were wearing.
I am also going to say something that is not very popular now. I went to the semi at Huddersfield with a younger female friend. We were both terrified. We had abuse from the fans and we had large heavy missiles thrown at us.
It will take me a long time to forget that, and while I appreciate that in some respects Hull have tackled the problem, IMO the behaviour in Chav corner is not that different from what has happened previously.
I have since been to Hull and had rocks thrown at the coach, ( a park and ride one btw, that was full of Leeds supporters), and had verbal abuse from cars that have passed as we have walked back to our car, and then the incidents on Saturday.
I will not be returning to Hull in a hurry.
The fact that it is not just our club that has problems also suggests a major problem.

I will certainly come to Hull again, as I feel the problems were on both sides. The thing that sways my judgement is the amount of police that are there when we do play you. As I said, it is significantly more than any other match. I am sure you are not all the same. In fact, before we went into the stadium, some Hull fans wished us luck and said they hoped the best team won. I think certain fans are giving you all a bad name.
And as for the southstand, yes, they certainly have some interesting songs. We sit in the north stand, but still have to cover my 10 year old cousin's ears sometimes!

Hardly I have been a supporter since 1964
my concern isnt the level of violence or intimidation has you say I dont live in a cotton wool world
rather its the current inaction of the club. They must be aware of the problems and yet appear to do nothing IIRC the last initiative was support based rather then club lead.

| Last year on the way out of the KC some chavs went past in a car spouting abuse, throwing things and threatening us. Unfortunately, they hadn't looked ahead and seen that the lights were on red, there was queuing traffic and they were boxed in.
I ran after the car and caught it up while they hurriedly tried to wind the window up. They didn't manage it and I managed to smack one right on the end of the nose. I was well pleased with myself as the rest of them did absolutely nothing in response.
Cowards when confronted.

| When I had my fleeting 15 minutes of fame a few years back, between takes, I got chatting with some of the crew in the studio. As the token Northerner, I was happy to play on my RL links.
I got chatting to one of the camera crew and they told me that they'd previously worked for Sky Sports and spent a fair amount of time working on their RL coverage.
When enquiring what made him move on, the main reason he said was the hassle and abuse at a particular ground for the mere 'crime' of running up & down the touchline capturing the action.
I'll leave you to guess where the he cited straightaway (and let's face it, with no club loyalties or axes to grind) as by far the worst place he had to work....

| Ban the singing and the chanting .
That will stop all the rude stuff and the banter that goes on between two sets of opposing fans .
That will kill the atmosphere .
Ban anything that could be thrown and cause injury .
Ban team colours .
Ban the beer and breathalyse people before they enter a 5 mile exclusion zone around grounds on match days .
Ban coaches and mini bus . They are too tempting a target for the wound-up home fans .
Ban Sky from filming and broadcasting . It encourages foul language in the home .
FFS.. Grow up . Sh1t happens . If you ain't happy vote with your feet , and stay at home .
There is always going to be problems with fans . It's just human nature to want your tribe to win everything and get a bit excited if they lose .
I would love to know how many of the fans that shout the hate songs at games are the very same people who shout down other people for been racist .
The two are very close when compared .
'I love my country' v 'I love my team' .
'I hate Johnny Foreigner' v 'I hate (insert team name)' .
Is it not racist to shout that you hate somebody just because their beliefs differ from yours , or because they come from a different place ?
Thankfully the majority of the shouting at games is just high-spirited banter , and post-match drinks are usually the order of the day with very little trouble .

For most people, yes.
The problems occur with a special breed of person who is not yet mature enough to accept your explanations, age doesn't really come into it but there are people out there who simply could not comprehend what you have said, those people, bereft of wit, know only how to respond with violent gestures and ultimately violent behaviour.
You have to feel sorry for them really for they will never gain the maturity that the rest of us find and will spend the rest of their lives living with violence.

And again, despite your perceptions which are apparently perfectly good enough for you without looking at the evidence, they are actively dealing with the situation.
Only I think for some on here all that will be good enough is for Hull FC to take part in some sort of cleansing or hire 500 stewards to stand over them with tasers. Its plain ridiculous and completly out of persective.
And, again, lets not forget how the trouble started on Saturday. It was by the Leeds Rhinos fan - like it or not.

You seem to have missed the point .... This bloke did a lot of the football grounds and rugby league for Sky. He didn't have any club loyalties or an axe to grind, so the perfect position to be both objective and subjective. Get this, he couldn't give a monkeys about half the places he went to or about rugby league. He did, however, care about his working environment.
He didn't say there wasn't a problem at other places.
The bloke simply stated that the WORST place he had to go was .... To the point of getting sick of it and getting a job with another TV company so he could be in a nice, warm studio somewhere and not have to deal with the hassle / abuse.
The bottom line is, many fans of various clubs (not just Leeds), find going to Hull a problem. Why ? There's a subtle difference between hostile and violent reactions and the latter seems to be the norm. You expect a hostile reception at most places (in fact, some quite look forward to it), but not a violent one.
By the same token, I am always amazed by people that think going to a rugby league game is going to akin to some sunday school outing. There's going to be an element of confrontation and industrial language, it is the nature of the beast. And trust me, I've been to just about every ground in the league (many as a neutral) and you'll get a microcosm of the hostility at many places across the RL playing clubs in the UK. What you won't get is violent intent.
Whilst everywhere else isn't perfect, they're certainly far less intimidating than going to the KC and after the issues in the last few years, after some improvement, the atmosphere at Hull seems to be going back down a confrontational slippery slope again.
The common defence is to cite 'the trawler song' as some form of blue touchpaper, but when was that last sung at a Leeds game ? I've been to just about all the Leeds matches played since the move to the KC and have never heard it whilst I've been there. That particular song is not acceptable and via these boards and by other methods, those singing it previously are in no illusion that sort of thing should be struck from the repertoire forthwith. In other words, collectively we've managed to get our house in better order, how about you ?
Do you want to see another event like the McAlpine Semi Final involving your own club ?
This is not some pious, sanctimonious 'my team is better than yours' rant. I suggest going to try and experience Rugby League as a neutral from time to time (where there is no affiliation with either of the teams participating) and you'll start to get a better idea of what goes on elsewhere. And I don't mean watching KR occasionally either. Yes, the ref is bent .... Yes, there's a huge conspiracy theory with a size akin to shooting JFK aimed at their club and yes, their team is being robbed blind. You'll soon see that those fans are actually not much different to the same people you sit near every other week, they've just got a different coloured shirt on. This is not the violent 70s we are living in and most of the rest of the league watching world seem to have moved on a bit. However, it would appear that there are too many of the inhabitants of chav corner that don't know where the fine line is and are more than happy to cross it, nor does there appear to be a natural break on their activities by everyone else.
As you can see by some of the posts elsewhere, the feelers are out for our glassing throwing clown (we know where you were) for the appropriate authorities to deal with him ... How about your club ?
At the end of the day, don't let the large number of great, genuine and passionate Hull fans be blanked out by the minority of muppets in some sections of the ground.
