Would be gobsmacked if Watkins plus Parcell salaries, especially for 2020 with stated Watkins increase, were not significantly in excess of Lui and Lunt.
Admittedly don't know the figures.
Watkins has been producing 6/10 (in the centre at least) performances all year and whereas too much was expected too quickly of him, a "swap" for a half isn't bad business IMO.
Lunt is a good character around the place, it will be interesting though to see what length deal we offer him if this whole sequence falls into place.
Bottom line is that I'm sure the club does have a plan here. KS will have a "paper side" he's trying to recruit to, although it may take a while before we can snag our main targets.

That player is Matt Parcell who you've agreed a swap deal with Hull KR for Shaun Lunt.

Hull KR can't sign Parcell until they too release someone from their 'overseas quota'.

That player is Junior Vaivai.

Hull KR are in the process of 'paying off' Vaivai.

The Lunt signing is the interesting part for me. I'm starting the think it might be with view of a backroom role in the near future. He can't have long left on the field... Would he be happy to be a bit part player for the next 18 months?

As Marty and other have said this all looks pretty bizarre, if true.

I understand Lunt is out of contract this year at HKR, so my hope would be if he comes we give him a deal to end of this season and then he should be pulling out all the stops until season end for a deal next year.

If Lui’s wages are anywhere near £160k I can’t see we will have much more room for manoeuvre next year but who knows.

IF we were paying £160k a year for Lui, then it would be the most incompetent business we have ever done. You could get a Marquee signing for next year with less than that counting on the cap, and a far better signing.

Assuming it does happen (and it still might not), who would you play alongside Lui? Tui, Myler or McLelland?

If you were to pay 160k per annum for Lui and sign him just to get you through this season, you would be paying around 66k for him. He is a good player IMO and definitely an improvement on what you have, good bit of business in my eyes.

McLelland definitely. But would have played Tui had it been Hastings.

All ifs,buts and maybe's at the moment. I wouldn't mind Lunt coming in on a short term deal, he was great for us in the Championship winning team and i was surprised we didn't try to sign him permanently then. I prefer Parcell as starting hooker to,at times, headless chicken Dwyer. get Myler a decent half partner whoever it may be. And for god sake get Sutcliffe and Ferres out of the team and the club asap.

It's likely the club will go with Myler and Lui I would say though, although I'd agree with you personally.
Again, just the fact we're seriously in for Lui must put Lolohea's future in doubt, given that he's ostensibly being signed for the position Tui was recruited for and FB is taken.

Time will tell if the gamble will pay off. If we see a significant difference in our attack and direction as a team £66k even to avoid the uncertainty that relegation brings will surely be worth it.

Ferres just annoys me now. I can see why Sutcliffe has been retained, but moving position hasn't helped develop whatever talent he has over the past couple of seasons.
If anything, his future must be in the back row but I don't think he has the attitude for it, or the ability to push past the clutch of other back rowers we have.

You may be right - and to be fair they have a huge say in games and usually spend 80 mins on the field without needing to be spelled.

I keep saying this but seriously, stop worrying about numbers quoted in the press. They are just made up.

Only if they do increase the marquee allowance to three,
or if we release Hurrell or Merrin.
Also: Leeds is rich compared to most SL clubs but our pockets aren’t bottomless. We still have to assemble a squad which, ideally, is good value for money.
I still think we need another couple of senior players even after 6 and 7 is sorted for 2020.

Some would argue we need nearly a whole new team but I agree, let's get a decent halfback pair and then see where we are.

Right, fantasy time again but lets say we do sign both lui and Hastings, when was the last time a club signed a rival team’s first choice halfbacks? I don’t remember that happening before?

Looks like Lui will be coming anyway, he is a good player and will add something to the team so lets see how it pans out.

Watched a few of Salfords highlights since the rumours and to be fair he’s far better than what we have
