Whilst I'd prefer it if Cameron Smith becomes a megastar with Leeds, part of me would be amused if the brightest star in the youth system since the game started turned out to be a flop. The wailing and gnashing of teeth on here about juniors is ridiculous, as are the generally massively overblown views of their ability.

I haven't seen much of Smith except for a few highlights of Academy games. TBH my main memory is that he looked a bit fat.

Often the case that big kids never need to develop the subtle skills as their physique makes them standout players in junior rugby. Shame there is no room in the modern game for little players who often are the better rugby players. Perhaps this accent on size is why the game has a lack of quality at half back as the little ones are not encouraged enough.

As a junior he was a stand out second row forward - sadly he never got a real chance to play that role once he moved up to the seniors

It seems to me that other than the hooker all the other positions in the modern SL pack are pretty much interchangeable.

Walker looks to have a bit of something about him. He's got the luxury of playing behind an utterly dominant pack but all of his trys have taken some scoring and he's linking up well in the line.

Excited to see how Oledzki does when he comes on.

Open question to you and others who watch u19's regularly. do you think Sunderland or Darley are ready to step up and do you know what happened to dyson Nicholson? He seemed to look a real prospect.
