Which songs about sinking trawlers? I genuinely don't know of any - I've heard the South Stand sing "you're only happy when you're fishing" and at away games "Hull is a sh*thole, I wanna go home".

Please can you let me know of these songs to which you refer?

I have been going 35 years, and can honestly say, I have never heard that sung at Leeds or away.

I don't know any songs about trawlers, the only song about boats that I know is Sloop John B but I don't think it sank in the song.

Of course in all seriousness what the fishy commentator is speaking of is the loss of three Hull trawlers in 1968 and then the disappearance of The Gaul in 1974.

Its [ipossible[/i that some insensitive tunesmiths may have sung something about these incidents forty years ago, but with the benefit of hindsight, would you really go to The Boulevard and take the p1ss out of them for their loss, no neither would I, when you went to The Boulevard the best result you got all afternoon was that no-one realised you were from Leeds and your car was OK when you got back to it, you certainly wouldn't start trying to abuse the inmates of that infamous ground.

Theres also a good chance that the ones who still harp on about every team in RL singing about trawlers (and they throw the accusation at EVERY team) weren't even born then and are just repeating gossip.


I don't think the Sloop John B sank though, have sung it over in my head and it doesn't in my version.

As I said earlier I visited the Boulevard many times in the past, I always wore Leeds colours and I never had any trouble. No doubt it was an intimidating place to visit, mainly for the players I think, but I always had a respect for that, apart from one JP cup tie where Garry Schofield was relentlessly abused wth real venom every time he touched the ball.

I can't believe looking through this thread that it's been taken seriously by any Hull fans. I doubt any Leeds posters are and to use a fishing analogy, it's hard to believe such poor bait has reeled in so many.

I went once to the Boulevard & heard sustained racist chanting aimed at Hanley. After that I vowed never to go there again.
I figured why should I give money to that club when they allowed their fans to behave so despicably?
I have been once to the KC stadium when it was free for a cup-tie.
The racist element to the chanting had thankfully ceased but the Hull fans in one corner of the ground spent the whole game abusing the Rhinos fans unfortunate enough to be near them.
I have not been back since.

I went to the Boulevard in 1986 and the cook threw away ALL my grits and I’ve never been back since. They wouldn’t even let me go home immediately. It was the worst trip Ive ever been on.

Since the comment Fat Boy was responding to was yours (not generically Hull fans/people) I assume you're alleging that he has been personally engaged in singing these songs? Otherwise it isn't really relevant or appropriate to bring it up is it?

I think singing mocking songs about such things would be scraping the barrel. Much as I think scoring cheap points from a very unpleasant case of sexual abuse is pretty low. But presumably if I support the same team as somebody who did the former, I'm unentitled to comment on the latter?

I remember walking out of headingley with my 5 year old son at the time and my missus on a fri night when FC beat your lot to be called a cod head & my missus was shouted at you smell of fish then when I said grow up was offered out so it works both ways yobish fans are everywere at every ground this needs to be locked down now because its going to far, the topic was supposed to be about FC & KR merging but this is not going to happen as we average 17000-20000 supporters combined so go chat e about wakey/cas or Salford/London poorly supported clubs.

Actually if you read the start of the thread it had pretty much closed down after a silly start and gone off on a tangent until a couple of visitors decided to just read the first post, ignore the responses and have a strop.
