| Quote ="Norman Stanley Fletcher"Is anyone started think that this whole ' we're on the brink ' that the Bradford club are spinning could be nothing more than a publicity stunt? I really can't see the club going out of business in just over 10 days time if they don't raise the money. After the news broke yesterday morning the Bradford Bulls brand have been in everything except a $hit sandwich! They get lots of free publicity, guarrenteed beig attendances at they're next few games and the big one is that they are not asking people to give money straight away, only to pledge that they would. I'm beginning to smell a rat.'"
The problem with that sort of strategy is that going so public with your pleas just brings the whole world of commerce down on your head like a ton of bricks - I'd imagine that anyone who supplied anything to the Bulls on credit was on the phone yesterday demanding the settlement of their outstanding accounts, including HMRC.
You give anyone a sniff of impending doom and its like a cast iron guarantee that doom will come and the quickest way to bring in the administrators if only to give your receptionist a break on the phones - which is why I can sort of understand why Hood has been so, shall we say, careful, about their financial situation over the past few months.

I'd have to agree with Mcfield on this, having witnessed plenty of company's go bust recently the very last thing you do is admit any problems on such a large scale, meetings with the bank/creditors etc are the norm but what hood has done is basically admitting he's wrapping the company up in a months time and any money in the meantime is a bonus.
Would you invest any money in the Bulls right now considering that Odsul in not a Bulls asset.

For a recent example look at how media exposure caused panic about Northern Rock

As I understand it, it was the threat by HMRC to petition for winding up if the tax liabilities are not paid in the next couple of weeks that brought this about. So I am given to understand, anyway.

| The CEO is an honest and thoroughly decent, normal young guy who I believe to be doing his best. He is basically a salaried employee. Funnily enough, he was left holding the baby yesterday as the other directors were out of town.

I'd hold back on those thoughts if i were you Adey considering where you are and who has been running the club.

I wonder if he may want to reflect on our discussions in light of these developments.'"
I presume they'd want to pay there debts on the same basis as before. The "fund" would be there to provide the lifeline lost by the reduction of the RBS facility. That is assuming that the bulls aren't haemorraging money and that there plight has been the result of 2 or 3 one off drains on cash. That i cannot besure of.

The minute he opened his mouth on Look North and tried to lay the majority of the blame at the door of my club, any sympathy I had for him disappeared
Hold you hands up first to the mistakes you (as a collective BoD both past and present) have made, get your mitigation in second. Don't sound like a whiny primary school kid telling to teacher, particularly not if you're wanting to play on people's consciences to open their wallets.

Might still be on iPlayer.
To paraphrase, when asked how they had ended up in this mess the first item on his list of excuses was a long and expensive legal battle with another club, before then following on with stuff about on-field performance, economic conditions etc.

| Out of interest, did he try and argue the other club was in the wrong, or did he simply state the fact as you have done there?
If he said what you said, he was merely stating a truthful fact. Regardless of the rights and wrongs, the legal battle was expensive (not least in terms of legal fees and other distractions) and long. Was he wrong to state that?

You know as well as I do Adey that when you're in PR mode it's not what you say, it's how you say it.
By putting it to the top of his list of excuses, in the minds of the casual viewer it shifts the blame onto someone else rather than the current and previous Bulls management.
He made no mention of the fact that the Bulls got themselves sued because a former Chairman wanted to get into a penis measuring contest with Hetherington, or that they've subsequently failed to cut their cloth according to their means.

| I'll be giving them £100, and if i could be sure that they won't be in the same position again come 6-12 months time i would give more. Unfortunately we all wouldn't be surprised if they come calling again for help so i'll just stick to the ton. Will my £100 end up being a waste of money spent? Quite possibly, but i've thrown away money on worst. But if Bradford go then a part of Leeds Rhinos goes with it, and maybe some of the men in charge doesn't deserve helping but the club as a whole for the impact they made on the early Super League years certaintly do.

| I remain in for 0 money as long as it's just bailing out the board from the responsibility for their mess.
If they offer a share issue or something similar I'll pledge and donate my shares to a supporters' trust or similar, but I've got a family to feed and I'm not giving incompetent private businessmen hand-outs. I bet Mr Hood's wealth is already considerably greater than mine, so maybe he could dip his hand a bit deeper into his pocket and man up to the mess he and his colleagues have created.

| I realise that its all a bit last minute, you'd think Bulls would offer some stuff in return, which would more likely yield a response from the wider public. Shares, merchandise, signed stock sell off on E-bay etc, would all entice me to maybe spend money at the club, than simply pouring it down the drain.

Yes my thoughts too.
At such a crucial time this was a most unimpressive performance from someone who looked way out of his depth. For the club to field an employee rather than the major shareholder rather shows the pedigree of those at the top. For this appeal to have been made at the very last minute also shows a complete disregard for their supporters.
I wish the Bradford supporters well for the future which I believe will be best served with a complete new club. If the current Bulls set up goes into administration it is only the end of this failed commercial company and not a Bradford RL club. As happened in the past the goodwill of the rugby league community in Bradford will ensure that a new club will rise phoenix like from the ashes. Bradford Phoenix?
