| Mr Field,
What would be the best breed of dog to get for a young couple living in a big 2 bed ground floor flat (with decent sized gardens) but haven't owned a dog on their own before? I've grown up with Boxers, Staffies, German Shepherds and Westies, but her indoors is from a cat family...
I was thinking Collie or a Lab? Ideally nothing that 'Yaps' all day.

Don't get anything unless she's prepared to do her fair share of the dog work. By which I mean after the 'lil puppeh whuz so cewt n luvvable' stage. All the walking, the cleaning up of the sh-te and the , the toilet training, the drives to the vets (and the bills), the general training & food.
Quite Mclazzery_Field was that. Ish.

| Don't get a Border Collie unless you've got a load of time and energy to devote to training and exercise. They're working dogs that need to be constantly stimulated and challenged otherwise they'll just get bored and destructive.
Get yourself a greyhound (particularly a rescue ex-racing greyhound). They tend to be self sufficient, equally happy either running around a field or just laid in front of the fire.

As Mr Gilder says a border collie needs constant walking, would this be a problem to you ?
A Retriever like Jake was would be your ideal dog, calm, placcid and happy to lie around and sleep all day - there's a really nice Basset Hound thats in the Dogs Trust at the moment that looks like it doesn't care if its walked a right lot too
If all goes well this week (fingers crossed) we might be GSD owners again...

My first thought was Jesmond too, when I first moved to the N.East I stayed in Jesmond for a while among the old biddies and Habitat yuppies but moved to Whitley Bay because it was cheaper, much cheaper, like spare change cheap.

| Mr Field, I have recently lost weight and now my clothes look baggy on me. I’m a bit of a cheap skate and don’t want to spend a penny on new clothes. What’s the best way to put all the weight back on so I fit into all my clothes again?

You have this the wrong way around, what you have to do now is make the clothes fit you.
This is actually very much simpler than it sounds and used to be common practice among Victorian families at the start of the winter when children would be sewn into their flannel underclothes for six months. All you need to do is find some willing volunteers, a needle and some cotton.
Don the clothes that you wish to wear until such a time that you can find another person to unstitch you out of them, put them on and then get two other people to stand either side of you and pull on the slack in the clothing. While they are holding this the third person, the one with the needle and thread makes a series of running stitches all the way down your clothing as close to your skin as possible, indeed a much better finish will be achieved if they can actually stitch your clothing to your skin.
Your clothing will now take on the "made to measure" look, and with a pair of scissors you can cut off the excess right up to the new stitchwork to improve this image, people will now admire you as if you have bought that t-shirt at a posh bespoke boutique rather than the skip outside Matalan and you will be a bobby-dazzler and the talk of your neighbourhood, "There goes Damo in his bespoke fitted t-shirt" they will all say admiringly.
Copious quantities of eau-de-toilette (taken from a real toilet) will help minimise the inevitable stale sweat smells that will begin to emit after a couple of days and other than that there really is no downside, I recommend this most sincerely.

| Dear Mr Field,
In my office at work, theres 3 of us. Me and two Julies. One Julie is spot on, the other is a pain. Simply because with summer approaching, the weather improving and temperatures on the rise, she is still insistant on having a heater on because she is cold.
Now I accept this may be the case, but it is uncomfortable for me and the decent Julie to work and have complained about it many times to no avail.
Also, being the tight fisted Yorkshireman that I am, I can see my boss having to pay out more money to keep said heater running and I dont like it.
Like I've said, i've already complained to the powers that be and threatened to take the fuse out of the plug but is there any way getting her to shed the heater McLaren Field style, straight to the point and that?
Thanks in advance
A very warm Sam Buca II.

He lives on Springbank somethingorother, but you won't have a problem identifying his house, its the one with the ornamental wooden windmill in the front garden, almost a full sized windmill, and the sails are powered by an Amano motor but rather than do one revolution per minute he's taken the gearbox off it and set it to its default 9000 revs per minute - can you imagine how many small children have been maimed in Springbank by the front garden windmill who's sails revolve like 9000 rpm sythes ?
True story.

I once had a woman who worked for me who insisted on using our old crap database of customers and calls rather than the swish new CRM software that I had installed at great cost, she did that not because she hadn't been trained properly on the new software but simply because she was a belligerent old cow who thought she knew best.
My solution was to wait until she was off one day and then open up the database tables and remove all of the indexes, the next day she tried to open the old software and got a database error message which of course we could not fix, "I'm very sorry my dear" I said in my best condescending voice, "its damaged beyond repair and you will now have to use the new version..."
She left my employment shortly afterwards.
I suspect that your belligerent Julie has similar issues and I also suspect that she will easily see through your ruse to remove the fuse, you need to be more inventive.
For instance, and I do not recommend this at all in any way to anyone who values their lives, but just as a for instance, if you were to wait until she goes to the toilet, unplug the heater, place a nail across at least two of the heater elements, stand well clear and then switch back on, you would enjoy a brief but very destructive fireworks display at which point you can switch the power off again, remove the now melted nail and plug back in the now defunct heater*.
She will return from her toilet break, switch the heater back on and you can instantly comment "Can you smell something burning ?"
You are buggered when the winter time draws near though as you have just knackered up your heater.
* Neither RLFans nor the poster known as McLaren_Field recommend putting nails across the heater elements of any electrical appliance, and I still have the burn marks to demonstrate why.

Any way didn't see his place but Hulls changed since I last ventured there.
