Not necessarily, there could be clauses in the contract that protect both parties, similar to those that sever the contacts of players of clubs demoted from the SL

Hopefully with a new(ish) face coming in the existing squad will know that he'll be prepared to make tough decisions and that they'll need to fight for their places in the squad. It would be nice to see that translate into defensive effort tomorrow.

Yeah I get that, but the timing of the annoucment would be very foolish of the club if his appointment was based on us staying in superleage, you would think the club would wait until superleague status was guarenteed (or not) before an annoucment, if that was a stipulation in him coming.

Thinking the same, the players must no know that the new coach will be deciding who he rates and does not over the next few games, some big performances needed.

We will be in super league easily think some people are over estimating the strength of the teams in this comp. plus league yslikely tobe increased to 14 next year anyway.

Nothing certain on either front though, unless the clubs have got an idea of how the votes going to go nxt week. While I agree we should have enough to stay up, regardless of what happens with the structure of the league, i think some people are over estimating the squad we'v got left fit and the poor/inexpeirienced coaching staff we'v got leading them. There was no pressing need to announce this now, I could be wrong, but i dont think the club would risk pontential further ridicule by announceing this now, unless he was 100% coming regardless.

I would've rather had Griffin as I wanted a coach with no previous connection with Leeds, but this is still a great appointment on the face of it. He has experience at all levels of the game as a player and a coach, and there's not many current coaches you can say that about.

Need to up there performance to impress a new coach? If making sure the biggest club in the country dosnt get relegated isnt enough to get them to up there performance, announceing a new coach isnt going to. Anyways, we'r starting to get away from my original point that i would assume announceing it now would mean Furner would be coming regardless of which league we'r in, Peter Smith has now confirmed that.

I know what you mean however I don’t think his connection to Leeds matters in this case. I think there’s only Sinfield and Burrow at Leeds now who was there when Furner played so it’s not like he’s going to feel any attachment/loyalty to any of the current squad or anything.

JJB can do another season if we also recruit well. We need his enthusiasm and line speed, even if he doesn’t play every week. We need some pretty big changes but also some players who know what it means to play at Leeds and more importantly win at Leeds to show some of the younger players what is expected of them.
Loyalty to JJB will be far from Furner’s mind. Creating a winning mentality will be his priority.

JJB is a champion player and an even better bloke but he really needs to finish.

It will be interesting as to what players are brought in and who are moved on .I think it will be into Furners second season before we get a settled team . If It's true that Furner was instrumental in the signing of that new halfback he could be recommending a few more . I think he will be looking at videos of this years games .

I’m hoping Davd Furner can find Liam Sutcliffe’s position and really help him kick on. He’s got plenty of potential but not currently living up to it. Playing full back, centre, back row and stand off he hasn’t really given the opportunity to progress.

Perhaps it has to be accepted that Sutcliffe simply isn't good enough to play in an elite SL team?

That is more likely. Anyone with so called “potential” shows it at some point. Look how many games he has had. He is a bang average wannabe and nothing more. Should not be a position in a top club for that level player, when s promising youngster could easily fill that role.
