That's a good point to be honest, there isn't anyone i can think of really, im quite happy with his appointment, because the players speak highly of him so fingers crossed, he will prove opposition fans wrong.

Bramley you're sounding just like all the fans who supported the early appointment of Steve McNamara at the Bulls.

There too he was trumpeted as a champion for sorting out the youth development side of things. He was good at that but it takes years to bear fruit and trouble was he wasn't much good at being a 1st team coach.

IMO McDermott is an odd choice for head coach.

Yes, this could be a decision that could back fire but so could any other appointment. Leeds are a club that has been there and got the T-shirt when it comes to useless high-profile players and coaches from overseas.

I think the difference here is that McDermott does have some background as a head coach (in what was a difficult environment), something that McNamara didn't have. Maybe it is just me being in a positive mood this morning but I'm relatively happy with McDermott seeing us through the next three years. Above all, I think we need a long term plan - you don't often get that with coaches from Australia who tend to go home at the end of their two year contract.

Or ones that say they are going home then find they can't get an NRL job and have to pick up any old work they can in SL, for example?

What a lot of people from outside Leeds will not acknowledge is that McDermott has been at Leeds before and did a good job. From what I can remember there was definate drop in the quality of the performances when McDermott left. Leeds know what they are getting in McDermott, but obviously some people on RLFANS think they are in a better position than GH to judge.

Also... If McDermott is as good at the Youth side of things as his reputation suggests (seems to have done OK so far!), then that's all we really need at this stage.

I really don't think it matters who coaches us in 2011, with a captain like Sinfield and players with the quality and experience of Peacock, Senior, McGuire, Burrow & Buderus in the squad it will practically coach itself next year. They're certainly not going to let him do anything stupid so all this talk from the Dulls about us finishing outside the 8 etc/start of the decline etc is just garbage.

McDermott's appointment seems very much like it was in the long term plan for a long term solution post-current crop if you ask me. The fact that it's come a year earlier makes little or no difference. Not at all disappointed, let's just see if GH has got it right.

As a Quins supporter I was overwhelmed with joy at his departure - by this time next year Hetherington could well be deeply regretting this.

to be fair the the bulls u cannot fault them for this reaction. They are just going on experience of there own shambolic rebuilding proccess.

The main things I worry about with the McDermott appointment, is how it will affect our attacking play, whether he can produce the gameplans and whether he is willing to drop players who do not perform.

The things I expect/hope from him are to bring a lot of discipline to the squad, have a high standard of fitness/strength and to be the best defensive team in the league.

I'll base my judgment once were at least half way into the new season. He could shake things up again and revitalise the likes of JJB, Ablett and Webb, new ideas and ways of thinking or always good. It will also be interesting on the recruitment front with the sounds of another overseas player and possible coach coming over aswell. I just hope everyone has patience for McDermott to settle in before we are calling for his head.

The only opinion I can give of McDermott is based on his past record as a Head Coach of another SL club which, TBH, isn’t that brilliant.

I’m not filled with hope but only time will tell – either a stroke of inspired genius or a cheap option which will come back to bite our ar[size=100s[/sizee.

I really hope it’s not the latter but I’ve not got a good feeling about his one.

It sounds to me like Leeds fans are trying to talk themselves into believing that McDermott is a good appointment, when deep down they know he is not the quality of coach they would expect at their club.

I know if I was a Leeds fan I would not be happy.
